Paterson Public School: Case Study

Gender The mission of Paterson Public School District is to increase female participation in our STEM Academy. After an evaluation of the district’s STEM Program, the district’s curriculum and instruction department decided to create an action plan to increase enrollment. As a woman who studied science in college, I recognize the importance of women in the STEM Field. As Director, I have made a concerted effort to increase enrollment, curriculum improvement, and student achievement. However, analyzing the data shows there needs to be an adjustment in order to attract more students. In Beckerman’s article, he states how Paterson Public Schools began working on creating a STEM Academy in 1995 (2018). Initially, the academy focused on attracting …show more content…
In order to effectively create an action plan to improve the recruitment of female students, there was a necessity to conduct a thorough evaluation of the program. After having discussions with students, teachers and administrators in Academy, the results are used to create an effective action plan of improvement. Also, a survey was created to assess where we are in the building level as well as district understanding of our needs.
