The children of the tribe sat around the campfire eagerly waiting for great father Cheveyo to tell them their nightly story. “Tonight” Great Father Cheveyo said “I will tell you the story of a young boy named Patamon. From the day of his birth the child caused trouble. The wind of a thousand birds swept over the tipi the day he entered the world, nearly knocking it over, everyone was awake with terror. Yet the child slept in peace, comforted by the commotion. The great mother Winema decided the child should be named Patamon which means tempest.”

The elders hoped that time in isolation would calm the storm inside him. Patamon however was extremely excited for an opportunity to explore without any boundaries.
“You must fend for yourself now, don’t be rash and respect the nature” Winema warned with such intensity Patamon almost listened.
“Great Mother Winema, when have i been anything but respectful” Patamon responded chuckling. Winema ignored him and started burning sage and pushing the smoke towards Patamon, she began whispering a chant of self-discovery. Once she was done she walked away and left Patamon to explore the lush green forest.

He cautiously walked closer to find men walking off the boat, however they didn’t look like regular men. They held long sticks and had strange heavy clothing.

Without thinking Patamon walked closer, his eyes wide. One of the strange men pointed at him in disgust shouting something in a language Patamon could not understand. Suddenly a very big man with an even bigger stick walked off the boat saying something with a firm voice. He made a gesture beckoning Patamon

Patamon backed away, cautious of the scary foreigners. The man then brought out a bowl of fruit offering it to Patamon. Patamon’s stomach gurgled, he had had no food during his Vision Quest as was instructed and he desperately craved the large red apple sitting at the top of the bowl.

He then walked over carefully and grabbed the apple, he hungrily chomped at the fruit until only the seeds remained which he too, swallowed. After Patamon had finished he looked up at the men who stood still and stared at Patamon while he ate
