With a mere 39.0 seconds left in the 1998 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship Game, the Lady Volunteers, coached by Pat Summitt are in the lead by twenty-two points. As Chamique Holdsclaw, player of the game, comes off of the court, she carries with her twenty-five points, ten rebounds, and six assists. While starters celebrate the victory with their coach, the underclassmen players finish out the game, holding the other team from a victory. The Lady Volunteers won that game against Louisiana Tech’s Lady Techsters 93-75. This win added a sixth national title under Pat Summitt’s belt as head coach that eventually turns into a total of eight, along with numerous other triumphs (Youtube). Pat Summitt was arguably the greatest coach of all time; her leadership, accomplishments, and drive for success are what allow her to not only conquer her battles, but also excel in them as well. …show more content…
Of five kids she is the fourth and one of two girls. Her family was richly based upon principles of dedication, drive, and character. She had many chores about their land every day that she, along with her siblings, would work to complete (Pat Summitt). When she graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1974, she had majored in Physical Education and played softball and basketball. She later went on to receive her masters in Physical Education from The University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1975 (Emeritus). In 1980 she married R.B Summitt, then later had a son with him, Tyler Summitt. Her son Tyler attended school at the University of Tennessee Knoxville and played men’s basketball under head coach Bruce Pearl. Later he became the head coach at Louisiana
