Today’s goal was to introduce me to the site, the people that work in my department, the resources available to workers, and current projects. My volunteer supervisor, Geraldine Baptist, showed me around the hospital, specifically where I would normally sign in and sign out, the cafeteria, and the Occupational/Physical therapy outpatient department. Upon arrival at the OT/PT department, Ms. Baptist introduced me to the front desk secretary, Mauracell, a sweet, openhearted young lady. Mauracell warm welcoming made me extremely comfortable, and all anxiety was put to ease. Mauracell showed me around the office and work center, then introduced me to each person present and gave me a description of what types of things they work on.…

Pastor Expands the Discourse on “The Samaritan Woman” There is much more to Jesus’ interaction with the Samaritan Woman than just about “living water” and worship in spirit and truth. Every Christian should be familiar with the Biblical account of Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman by the well near the city of Sychar (John 4:4-26). It is in that event where He gave the discourse on the “Water of Life” and where He directly revealed himself as the Messiah to a non-Jew – and woman. For counselling pastor Glenn Vellekamp, the story reveals more than just about the “living water” and worship of God in spirit and truth.…

    1) Pastoral Care as Therapy Lartey (56) identifies “danger of oversimplifying the issues at stake, the quest for single factors accountable for problems, the desire for quick-fix miracle cures, the problems of overdependence upon the curer or caregiver and the potential for abuse by the powerful therapist” (Anderson: p32). 2) Pastoral Care as Ministry This involves the church and it takes place during church service and there are five different activities that are to be done during the service; thus proclamation (beliefs and practices clearly defined and declared), teaching and prophecy (sharing of the beliefs), service deeds of kindness done), and fellowship (community gatherings and interactions) (Anderson: p32). 3) Pastoral Care as Social…

As a Christian counselor my job is to determine what works best for each client that I counsel. For this case study, I would assist Mary in finding some answers for her questions. I want to draw Mary in because the Holy Spirit can speak peace into her life. I would also recommend the following scripture to her; 1 Peter 3:15 (ESV) “ But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”…

Churches of all sorts have a love/hate relationship with liberation theology. Large and small, catholic and protestant, liberation theology has a tendency to challenge existing relationships between rich and poor, powerful and powerless, gender roles, and more. Liberation theology from the beginnings in Latin America have spread to encompass more communities – feminist theologians, African-American theologians, Hispanic theologians, and more have drawn inspiration from the idea that God has a preferential care for the powerless and oppressed, and that many stories in scripture, particularly in the gospel messages, show God’s care in this direction. Jesus was always more concerned for the poor than the rich, for the common people than the kings…

Within the last six years at the church I attended, the pastor’s wife has given multiple prayer requests about her experiencing difficulty breathing and uncontrollable allergies. Upon further investigation, she informed me that she would constantly cough and have whizzing spells. After her and the pastor moved into a different house, she began to notice a difference in her health. She was not only able to breathe better, but her allergies seemed to have subsided. After further inspection, the old house, that she had recently lived in, contained mold.…

The concepts of sin and salvation make up significant components of the Christian faith. The book “Why Christian?” written by Douglas John Hall and Introducing Liberation Theology by Leonardo and Clodovis Boff examine these doctrines. The Wesleyan Quadrilateral referenced in John Cobb’s book “Becoming a Thinking Christian” highlight how the ideas of these two books in regards to sin and salvation align and diverge. With regards to Scripture, Hall believes that scripture loses its meaning because of the exaggerated emphasis to live a Christian life by the standards of the higher echelon of the Christian community. He suggests that the traditional conservative approach of Christian topics are outdated.…

As I have read different texts throughout this semester, I have begun to question some of the teachings that are held by the Catholic church, and how they apply to me. One question that has stuck out to me in particular is, can someone who is outside the Catholic church, or disagrees with some of the teachings of the Catholic church achieve salvation. I believe that anyone, regardless of your beliefs or awareness of religious tradition, can achieve salvation based primarily on doing good works. I am not making an argument for what salvation is or what it consists of, I am stating that performing good works and helping other people around you out of the goodness of your heart is what helps you achieve salvation. Religion is good in the sense that it provides people with moral guidelines and encourages people to take action, but I believe that your belief in God or…
