Pasta For Pennies

Last year I participated in a found raiser called Pasta for Pennies. The all 5th period classes participated in the fund raiser, but I was actually a part of the Pasta for Pennies club that was in charge of the organization of the fundraiser. Pasta for pennies is a fundraiser through the Leukemia and lymphoma society. The money raised goes towards helping find a cure for blood cancers. I was in charge of making announcements to 5th period classes of their rating in the school compared to other classes. Another job that I had was to stay after school each day and collect the boxes of money from the classrooms and count the money. In the Pennies for pasta committee we found that many students did not even know what the fund raiser was for or …show more content…
The decision my grandfather made to end his own life hurt a lot of family members and I could not understand why he would give up his fight while someone would kill to be able to receive treatment at Duke Hospital where he was located. I decided that even though my grandfather gave up the fight for his life somewhere in the world there was somebody fighting to stay alive hoping a cure for their cancer to arise. I wanted to be a part of helping someone have a reason to fight a little while longer. As an Individual I felt that the Pasta for Pennies organization was an eye opener for me. Many families shared their stories with me and I felt as if I had known them my whole life by the end of the conversation. I never realized how many people suffered from blood cancers. As I was doing the fundraiser I did not receive many donations from my family members. I thought that they would be happy to donate but there were actually offended at my gestures. Most of the money I collected came from strangers which was difficult to do at times. Although I did not receive much support from my family members I look forward to taking part in the fundraiser again this
