Passionate About Going To College

I am so passionate about going to USC that I would do anything it takes to get there. Yet, the one fear I have about attending the school is that I will not be able to afford it. In 2011, my parents separated, later divorcing in 2012. My father was a self-employed truck driver, meaning he was gone all the time, and my mom was a stay-at-home parent. My mother has been my sole provider for my entire life; she has always made sure I never went without, and I never did. After the divorce, my father was court ordered to pay a monthly child support of $800 a month plus alimony. Unfortunately, he hasn’t paid this amount since the first year, causing my mother and I to struggle financial for the past seven years. At once, my mother had to get two full time jobs just to keep a roof over our head; she is such a handworker and I will forever be grateful for everything she has done for me. In late 2013, my maternal grandmother passed away, which was hard on our whole family. My grandfather had just turned 82 years-old, and didn’t feel comfortable living alone. So, he proposed a deal that saved all of our lives: if we were to move in and take care of him, he would provide us with a place to live. My …show more content…
However, that didn’t last long, for my father became unemployed. For the past 2 ½ years, we have received little if any money at all. My father has been manipulative and mentally abusive to me, specifically about the financial situation. He has lied to my face several times about the finances, so eventually, I cut all ties with him. He and my mother still communicate, but I will only talk to him when it is absolutely necessary. From what I know, he does not have a stable income, a permanent address, etc. My family has made the best of this situation and have promised to support me with anything I do in my life.
