Passion For Education: The Five Different Types Of Existentialism

Improved Essays
There are five different categories of educational philosophy and I fall a little too obviously in the Existentialism category. Once I understood Existentialism however, I realized that I definitely identified with most of this philosophy. As a child I did not understand the value of school until I came to look at everything differently. Looking back at my home life now, I realize that my parent’s absence of passion for learning spilled over into me for the first few years. My father attempted to get me to begin reading and it all died in vain for many years. He tried comic books and regular books that he thought I would enjoy but nothing sparked any interest. His constant encouragement to pick up a book led me to a revelation. I loved to read. In the fifth grade, I brought home the first of the now amazingly popular “Harry Potter” books and instantly fell in love. My passion for learning stems from that one decision to bring home a permission slip and read a book. How does this pertain to my educational philosophy? To me it is quite simple. That one decision skyrocketed my grades in English and soon I began devouring books that finally seemed appealing to me. I began to see my teachers and work in a new light as I began writing and using my interests more …show more content…
Teaching them respect and that they can be themselves is a must. A goal I hope to set for each child and myself is that they improve within something while taking my class. Reading, writing, self-confidence, or even just being able to speak to the class as a whole. I want the students to be inspired by what they see and what they can do. Learning is so much more than just textbooks and I want them to see that. I intend to use my students’ chores around the classroom to show them that everyone can and should be equal and that no one should be looked down upon for their differences. That differences are a unique quality in every single

My philosophy of education, and its leadership The true purpose of educating is to create a world of intelligence, and turn out students that will create and take the world further in advancing medical, teaching, science, and the understanding of the human mind. Without education or educators, the world would not be advanced as we are, none of the electronics we depend on, no doctors or medical advances, no technologies. Education should attempt to put students on the same level of learning, and intelligence; I know there are different intelligence levels, and attitudes about learning so not everyone will be on the same level of learning, but educators must act as if they are so all students have the same opportunities in learning. Students…

Duquesne was actually the last place I ever thought I would end up for college. I never wanted to stay close to home and the city did not seem like the right fit for me. However, once I discovered all the opportunities it had to offer I realized it did not matter that the city location wasn’t quite what I wanted and that home was only forty minutes away. It could give me what I really wanted and enjoyed – a high level, in-depth education.…

Philosophies surrounding education today are highly deliberated amongst education professionals. The visionary philosophical articles examined entitled, The Core Knowledge Curriculum-What 's Behind Its Success?, by Hirsch, Education for Freedom, by Hutchins, Dare the School Build a New Social Order?, by Counts, and “My Pedagogic Creed”, by Dewey, broadened my knowledge of the copious disparate philosophies that configure our educational systems in modern society. Through investigating the works of Hirsch, Hutchins, Counts, and Dewey, along with attributing information from the text book, I was able to progress my own philosophical beliefs regarding education. After taking the textbook survey to determine my philosophical beliefs regarding…

There are five philosophies of education that focus on teachers and students; essentialism, perennialism, progressivism, social reconstructionism, and existentialism. Essentialism is what is used in today’s classrooms and was helped by William Bagley in the 1930s. Perennialism is close to essentialism with the same idea of sharpening student’s minds and focusing on Great Books. Progessivism, social reconstructionism, and existentialism focus more on the wants and need of the students. Many people have different opinions on which should be used in schools today.…

When we think about education, some of the first things that come to our mind are teachers, textbooks, reading, homework, tests, quizzes, and exams. The purpose of education in the modern day is seen to be to “prepare children for getting a job” or “teach children skills that they will need to survive in the real world.” However, if we think about education in terms of textbooks, reading, homework, tests, quizzes and exams, does it truly prepare children for getting a job, or teach them skills that they need for the rest of their life? The importance of philosophy of education can help combat this, as it can redefine the purposes and focuses of the education system. If educators can learn to teach beyond the generic school curriculum, and educate students about the importance of cultural values, morals, and the social tools that they will need for the rest of their life, students can become more effective members of society, and be able provide others with wisdom and love, which is the true meaning of…

As Elmer Towns points out in Core Christianity, “in an age of tolerance, marked by an eagerness to find harmony among divergent worldviews, many argue it doesn’t matter what you think; only actions matter (Towns, pg.85).” With that simple knowledge we cannot talk a good talk but must walk in our faith showing that we were created in the image of God. Interaction is the opposite of seclusion; we must not seclude our faith and our Lord but lift Him up for all he is. Since mankind is created in the image of God, as an educator, I should represent God-like character, inform my students of the good Lord, and love each student unconditionally.…
