The movie Passchendaele was one filled with romance however the whole movie always kept on point in tying back to the historic elements of the battle of Passchendaele as well as WW1 as a whole. The movie mainly follows soldier Michael Dunne who after being hit with a blast from an artillery, was hospitalized and put in the care of a nurse named Sarah who he instantly connected with. He was later sent back home, diagnosed with neurasthenia, a medical condition in which the host suffers psychological disturbance and traumatic headaches.
The secondary characters in this movie are David Mann, a newspaper boy and his sister Sarah, a nurse. David is in a close relationship with his girlfriend, a girl named Cassie, but her father disapproves of him and will not give them his blessing until David serves in the war. David however, has quite a serious condition of asthma, resulting in attacks every so often. This has prevented him from begging accepted into the army so far despite his many attempts. …show more content…
David decides to try once more to join but is instantly denied when Michael finds out he has asthma, Michael also comes to realize that David’s sister is Sarah, the nurse that took care of him. Later on, Michael and his friend go out to a tavern to drink, but David follows them and tries to attack Michael’s friend. His friend almost kills David, but Michael saves him and takes him home to his sister. Michael and Sarah mutually fall in love after sharing their stories of loved ones lost in the war, like Sarah and David’s father, who died in the battle of Vimy
