Partners PE Class Reflection

Improved Essays
I have had the opportunity to attend school with the most amazing group of students in the special needs program, most of whom I have been friends with since middle school. Working in the Partners PE class has helped me grow as an individual and provided me with amazing opportunities like connections like meeting member who work in the Applied Behavior Analysis program at UNT. Partners PE has enabled me to accomplish the goals I have set for myself in the next five years through the building of my confidence, and the increase of life experience. When I first signed up for Partners PE class I was nervous about how I would do. I walked into class that first day an entirely different person than I have become. I was full of self doubt and anxiety, however thanks to the smiling faces and valued friendships I had gained I began to emerge from my shell. I started to get involved more in my school by joining clubs like Blue Crew and National Art Honor …show more content…
For example a girl I have attended Partners PE with sense high school loves to play basket ball, but when we have to rotate stations she gets upset and sits down and refuses to continue playing. At first I had no idea how I was supposed to react so I would give her lots of attention and unsuccessfully tried to coax her up. Through asking questions and taking the time to get to know her individual needs I was able to learn the proper way to get her up was avidly ignoring the negative behavior and rewarding her when she decided to get up on her own. The experience I have gained in learning how to work with many different students with special needs has given me tools that I believe will help push me to excel in the field of art therapy and give me the needed wisdom to better prepare for the types of things I will do not only in collage but in my future

For the disability ministry project, we were asked to choose a practicum experience where we shadowed or spoke to someone helping someone with a disability. For my project I chose to spend some time in the class for disabled children at the high school I graduated from. Throughout the glimpse of time that was allotted for this particular practicum experience I learned a lot of exciting things about disabilities, but also made some disconcerting revelations. While spending the day at school I was able to interact with the students, teachers, and overall staff of the high school; gaining insights, perspectives, and forming thoughts on everything I had witnessed. From start to finish, my day back at school has left a lasting impression on me.…

This was the first opportunity I had to work with people with different disabilities. First, I was very nervous and did not know what to expect. On the one hand, I was excited that I was going to put all that I had learned in class into practice, on the other hand, I was a little anxious about how I was going to perform and communicate with them. My one-week practicum, which lasted from October 23rd-29th 2016, was at group home of…

Albert Bandura “Social Learning Theory” The theory I chose was the “Social Learning Theory” by Psychologist Albert Bandura. In his theory Albert Bandura believed that children learn best from observing the behaviors of those around them, and imitating what they’ve learned “Children do not always need reinforcement or punishments to shape behaviors, sometimes they act in imitation of the behaviors that they observe around them” (Cook and Cook, pg12). To prove his theory Bandura, created an experiment known as the “Bobo doll” experiment.…

Working for the quality of my work and not for the grade has become my new mindset of the English subject, it has become a major improvement/emphasis in my daily life while attending this first quarter of 8th Grade English Honors based on motivational sayings by Mr. Royal. The development of this concept of mine has worked its way up and constructed itself based on the concept Mr. Royal has delivered to us about not only working hard, but being able to comprehend the overall image of the text, or literature, etc. Conveying the overall image of comprehension was a real hassle for me at first, but as the days flew by in this first quarter of English, I have learn to exhale all the stress, failures, and mishaps, and turn them into words that…

Class: My goal for this class is a A+ grade the entire year. In past middle school I said the same thing but it never really happened. At the beginning of my 8th grade semester I would have an above average grade but it always went down from there until the last few weeks when I would do an EXTREME amount of work just to get all my grades up to optimal. This cycle of doing very little for three fourths of the semester and then doing homework from 2pm-1am was something I was always worrying about, but could never motivate myself to end it by doing my work when it was supposed to be done.…

Elementary School Throughout elementary school, I do not remember many conversations regarding race. Growing up in Vermont, my exposure to diverse races were limited. I remember making a friend in second grade who had much darker skin than I had. Although, I had never had a non-caucasian friend before, I have no recollection of thinking she looked “differently” than the other white children in my class.…

I observed at Lincoln Elementary School, in Madison. They have a Spanish English Dual Language Immersion (DLI) and an English Language Immersion (ELI) program in the same school. The classroom I observed was part of the DLI program and used a co-teaching model where both teachers are teaching at the same time. One teacher teaches in English and the other teaches in Spanish, and the students spend 50 percent of their time with each teacher. This method makes it very clear when the students are expected to change languages and allowed a larger class size to be involved in the DLI program with only one classroom.…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

Observe for Evidence of these Questions: The Classroom Environment Walking into the classroom of Dr. Pree’s special education class, one would not think that the room or students were different from a regular elementary classroom. There were 10 students total, and every student was present the day of my observation. The students were separated into two groups of two and two groups of three in separate sections of the classroom leaving plenty of space for comfort and movement. As for the students, at first glance all the children seemed fairly bright.…

My first placement took place at a special educational needs (SEN) secondary school where I was employed as a teaching assistant. My duties were varied as I would often help children who struggled with the work because of their disabilities but also perform menial tasks such as photocopying. However by doing all of this I gained valuable experience of working in a school, knowledge of learning difficulties and improved upon many of my transferable skills. Communication skills Throughout my time at the school I improved on my communication skills by using different techniques for the children.…
