Participative Goal Style

I relate closest to the participative goal style. This style allows everyone to contribute ideas and come to an agreement with a decision. When I was a high school cheerleader, we did not have a team captain. Because of this, the seniors on the squad would usually create cheers and routines while the underclassmen watched and learned. There was the occasional underclassmen who wanted to change a motion or had a better idea altogether. If everyone liked that cheerleader’s idea, that motion or chant changed. As a result, no one was apprehensive when it came to contributing ideas, even though the seniors create the material. I least identify with the achievement-oriented style. I believe success is a great thing and something everyone should achieve. However, I do not think this style is worth practicing if it means people forget the purpose to why they are doing what they are doing or fighting for whatever they are fighting for. For example, a manager at job puts major emphasis on selling alcohol. This is because it will run up a tab a cause people to tip higher, thus making the store rank high in sales. While delegating, the leader has everyone’s attention is establishing rules and changes. The role of followers is to listen and ask questions for a better understanding. With delegating, comes people who know their roles and tend to find appropriate ways to relate information. For example, when I am at work and a trainer is training a new employee, the trainer is always clear about what is acceptable and what isn’t in the workplace. Before moving on to the next part of training, he makes sure the trainee understands before moving on to the next section. As the follower, the trainee usually listens because he knows that this is the only way he will receive the information to move forward in the training
