Have you heard of depressed children that never succeed in life? Well it has been caused by the epidemic that is the participation trophy. This event is the idea that everyone’s a winner and that you don't have to work hard in anything you do. This is insane! What’s next a college degree for showing up to college?There are two sides to this ongoing issue one that children need the trophies for some weird reason and the other being that children should get rewarded for effort not showing up. The side I’m on is the side of not giving these kids a trophy just because but giving one for effort.
The reason that this epidemic is awful is for the reasons that follow. Reason one according to an article by CNN, several educated people such as authors have studied about this issue, and according to their findings participation trophies can easily ruin a child’s self esteem (Website one). It might make children depressed when they don't win and they don't get a trophy. According to a CNN article, “Children that are given too much credit and also participation trophies are more likely to be severely depressed instead of kids who are rewarded for effort.” The final reason that children shouldn’t be given participation trophies is that kids just need to learn how to fail no matter how sad they are it’s a part of life(Website two). A CNN article confirmed this thought and also stated an example that if you are always told that you can’t lose then how would you feel if you lost really bad (Website one).
