Participating In The Employment Interview

Decent Essays
Participating in the Employment Interview was an educating experience. I t was good to practice doing something that I would have to do many times within my professional career. In the interview, there were a few things I did well. The first thing I did well was responding to the “tell me about yourself” question. Mrs. Marleen said that I did a good job with hitting the main point that she was looking for. She referred to my responses as an “elevator speech,” and said that I had a very strong one. She also said that my response to the strengths and weakness questions were impressive and I did a good job at acknowledging my weakness and how I am currently working on improving it. Another area Mrs. Marleen said I did well in was responding to

Introduction After reading chapter two of ‘Good to Great’ by Collins Jim, I was able to realize why I came to a stall in my last job as well as what skills I need to work on in order to grow as an individual and leader. In the chapter ‘Level 5 Leadership’ Jim Collins uses a chart to use as a reference when assessing yourself as the type of leader you are. This tool allowed me to reflect on what strengths I have but also what is needed of me to grow into the next level of a leader and allow me to be best utilized by my company. This chapter has led me to question whether or not I see a future for myself in my previous job but also has shown me I do have significant qualities that make a great leader, it’s up to oneself to reach the next step. Experience…

The biggest surprise during the interview was to find out that Deborah still faces struggles with asking others for help. Many times when people are higher up in a company they are glad to delegate their work to other employees. I felt helpful in the fact that I was able to use information that we were taught in lab and class to somewhat flip the switch and guide her. I reminded her that it is not showing weakness to ask others for help, something I also have to remind myself sometimes. Another surprise is that she still faces weaknesses with her communication skills regardless of her age and work/life experience.…

This interview took place in Dean Vargas’ office. As a first year advisor in the school of engineering, she has been busy in the past month assisting first year students in picking which type of engineering they are most interested in and helping them to plan their schedules for the upcoming year. This meant that she did not have the time to meet somewhere else. If this were not a factor, I would have suggested meeting in a cafe as that would have caused Dean Vargas to view me less as one of her many students and more as an individual woman, coming to her for assistance in navigating the unique set of circumstance women engineers need to navigate. I believe that as a result of holding the meeting in her office and not in a secondary location,…

Although I had practiced my interviewing skills that very morning, I felt anxious and worried. Not knowing what to expect, many different scenarios ran through my mind, all of which weren't making my situation any better. Questions after questions were asked, all which seemed impossible for me to answer, and I felt as though I blew the whole thing. Final Field Project For this assignment, I chose to interview my boyfriend Michael Hook. Throughout the time we have dated, he has always been someone I’ve admired and continuously pushes me to become a better person in all aspects. I wanted to interview him because the story of his company, to me, is pretty commendable and an interesting topic to discuss. Considering we have been dating for over four years, there was no research needed to prepare for this topic; we have discussed his job various times. For the opening, I began by thanking him for agreeing to participate in the interview and taking the time to answer the questions fully and to the best of his knowledge.…
