Within this mini study survey, my participant responded that it did not matter if the clothing was laundered from someone he liked or someone he disliked or even from a complete stranger as long as the clothing was washed. The participant also stated that if he liked the clothing then he would wear it regardless if it was previously owned from a complete stranger, someone that he liked or even someone that he did not like.

Elizabeth L. Cline’s book Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion unravels the global garment industry, consumerism, and America’s reckless love for cheap and fast fashion. This book is relative to most humans on this earth since most of us wear clothes, and all have to acquire them somewhere. Elizabeth Cline begins with the confession that she too, had once been a naughty and thoughtless consumer. During the summer of 2009, Cline found herself at a Kmart and purchased seven pairs of identical looking canvas flats for $7. After very few uses, the shoes deteriorated and fell apart and were no longer in style.…

One of the arguments Thoreau makes during the chapter Economy: Part II is that people are judged too much by what they wear. I agree with his statement; people shouldn’t have to worry about what clothes they wear. In paragraph 14, Thoreau says, “Most behave as if they believed that their prospects for life would be ruined if they should do it (wear a patch over their knee to mend their pants). It would be easier for them to hobble to town with a broken leg than with a broken pantaloon.” Although today many people don’t care what someone wears, people still judge you depending on what you wear.…

At Capilano University we do have some days when many students will agree together that they may all wear pajamas and it will be considered a social norm for that day, this proves that “the leading [social] norms [are] capable of promoting cooperation [of the social norm] depend[ing] on the community size” (Santos, F. P., Santos, F. C., & Pacheco, J. M) ; meaning, people can make anything a social norm if a large enough community has agreed upon it. I had made it a point to see my friends in public wearing my pajamas to see their reaction towards my “out of the social norm outfit” (Hajaghaie). I placed myself in two scenarios, the first scenario before I met up with two of my friends I had previously texted them that “I would be wearing an…

The group I participated in for the first meeting of communities of practice was the medical studies group. The group was composed of six individuals including myself; which were Hydi Ybarra, Ella Chen, Lina Mohammed, and Jessica Robles. In this meeting, I had the fortune of meeting a group of wonderful young women who had similar views when it came to providing medical services to minorities and became friends with two of these individuals quickly. During the discussion, we mentioned how insurance played a big role when it came to healthcare and the access it has based on insurances. We discussed how despite the fact that many individuals are paying hundreds of dollars to have insurance they are still charged a co-payment amount that is due before each visit or hospitalization.…

Breaking down the Afterlife The Afterlife of clothing is very important to society. Many people do not stop to think about what happens to their clothes after they donate, recycle, or trash them. When Americans discard a piece of clothing we usually do it one of two ways. We send it to Goodwill thinking that it will be resold to someone in need, or if it 's shockingly torn or stained, we throw it away assuming that the lifetime treasures of the garment has past. As consumers we should be very aware of these things because the best alternatives are either recycling or donating.…

Walk into anyone’s closet, and you might just get a glimpse of their character or personality. What one wears can potentially define who they are. In most cases, this can be seen as true for employees such as businessmen in suits and ties, or construction workers in baggy jeans and t-shirts. Clothing is something that has become a necessity overtime. It not only defines people, but also shows the evolution of history.…

Researchers are tasked with choosing the most relevant method to study a particular phenomenon. In the planning stages of a study, the researcher must decide whether to collect data that is quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods. Quantitative research is defined by Creswell (2014) as “a means for testing objective theories by examining the relationship among variables” (p. 247). Quantitative data is typically collected in numerical form and analyzed using statistical analysis. Furthermore, quantitative data is generally used when cause-and-effect relationships are not under investigation (Leedy & Ormond, 2010).…
