In his interview, participant 001, an art major male Latino student described how he had to learn to navigate higher education as a student who was lacked academic preparation. Commuting to school everyday with the help of public transportation for a total of 6 hours per day, the student developed particular skills that help in the context of gaining the academic preparation he sought after. Despite the potential risks in revealing their status, students were able to skillfully develop an intuition about to whom, when, and where it would be appropriate to share this information. As participant 001 explained,

The student at times is questions on his attendance in campus. Despite these challenges and the alienation from students and staff, participant 001 has had the resilience in overcoming this form of micro- aggression by being respectful, participant 001 explained,
“Some have been nice, some students have been or have judge you on your mistakes they make you feel unwelcome. Because of my image because the way that I dress some people talk to me others don’t talk to me in class. No; more professor even if initially. I am always respectful and polite even they have been disrespected
