For example, when Junior is trying out for the basketball team and he sees all the other players and gets a little intimated. In the text it says,”Roger the Giant was strong and fast and could dunk. I tried to stay out of way. I figured I’d die if he ran me over. But he just smiled all the time, played hard, and slapped me hard on the back” (Alexie 136). This example shows that Roger might be more skilled than Junior, but that's not stopping Junior from working hard in tryouts. During tryouts Junior had to play one on one against Roger, and he is one of the best players on the time. While playing against him Junior makes a hoop, this is amazing because Junior was never good at basketball his whole life, he was used to being a benchwarmer and watched Rowdy play but it all changed when he came to Rearden. All this happened because Junior never gave up during tryouts and tried his hardest the whole game
