The style used by Alexie is used to brighten up the life of Arnold, and happenings that revolve around his community. Imagery helps us create an interpretation of how we should visualize the whole story. It helps the reader develop an understanding of how they should view the very touching, or happy experiences Arnold faces. However, many of the comics he draws are more funny than they should be. These characters were a large part of Arnold's life throughout the book, particularly Rowdy. Rowdy and Arnold’s friendship was very wobbly, because Rowdy unfriended him after Arnold’s decision was made to go to Reardan High.
