“Each funeral was a funeral for all of us. We lived and died together.” This quote from The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian shows what Arnold Spirit, or Junior, the main character wants to reach. He wants everyone to be connected and united. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Alexie Sherman is about the struggles of a boy fitting into the society he lives in, especially culturally. The book shows how Junior deals with his troubles as he finds out who he is. The character that stood out the most was, of course, Junior. Junior has some very noticeable traits that make him the person he is. He is an interesting young man with many good traits that reflect his as a person.
One of Junior’s many traits is perseverance. Junior is depicted as perseverant when he heads to Reardan, a “white” school unlike his school, Wellpinit. He goes to Reardan even though he knows his tribe and his best friend,

This is apparent when Junior finds out Penelope is bulimic. Her loves her anyway and continues by offering his support to her. On page 112 it says, “I think it’s way cool that you want to travel the world. But you won’t even make it halfway if you don’t eat enough.” Junior is caring and puts his best intentions towards the people he loves. This is shown by the quote on page 112. He loves them and does his best to protect him. He also shows his sensitivity when after everything they have been through, Junior still misses Rowdy. “But I missed Rowdy. I kept looking at the door. For the last 10 years, he’d always come over to the house to have a pumpkin-pie eating contest with me. I missed him.” (102) This shows that Junior is willing to let go of a grudge for the people he loves. He is eager to forget the past if he has to. Clearly, Junior is sensitive in many ways. He is a loving, caring person that is ready to make sacrifices for those he cares
