Parody: George Ledyard Stebbins

Scientists have shown that there is a development in polyploidy, which means that you have more than two sets of chromosomes. As polyploidy is somewhat confusing, there is two articles of explanation on this subject. I want to start by explaining gene doubling in an easier sense due to its confusion. Polyploidy can occur when organisms self-fertilize or through sexual reproduction. Through research, it's said that this process can possibly create a new species after being done. Although, scientists did not realize the importance that this process had for plant evolution. The founder of this process is a person named George Ledyard Stebbins. Stebbins is a botanical researcher from the 20th century. Since the founding of this process, many scientists have studied this subject, which explains the news of development. Scientists Douglas Soltis, Clayton Visger, and Pamela Soltis are a few people mentioned as part of the research project. ““Gene doubling has shaped the biological world more than any other process,” comments Doug Soltis. "Some might consider this an overstatement, but in the plant world, genome doubling, or …show more content…
Fowler and Levin are showing how important it is to understand and know the population size for polyploidy. “Analyses confirms that the polyploidy does often equal speciation.” Speciation isn’t easy going into this process though. In research, they say that speciation can happen more than once and that studying three groups of new species can trace back to polyploidy, showing how common this can actually be. Another thing being studied is consequences of duplication in for how the genes will evolve. Four papers, including literature review, phylogenetic, laboratory study painting, and population approach, show the diversity to answer these questions. These and other papers show that there is a comparative relationship between polyploidy and sexual systems in

Purpose and Background Cells divide in two ways, mitosis and meiosis. Mitosis is used to produce cells that are genetically identical to the parent cell for growth, asexual reproduction, or repair after injury. Cells that are produced by mitosis are diploid, meaning that they have two complete sets of chromosomes, one from each parent. Meiosis is used to produce haploid cells that have only one set of chromosomes, a mix of chromosomes from both parents. Meiosis produces cells that are genetically unique from their parent cells.…

Prophase I takes place when the homologous pairs are connected and cross over which leads to diversity of characteristics in a phenotype. Crossing over occurs between homologous chromatids and sister chromatids. Metaphase I is when the chromosomes line up side by side. The chromosomes can line up differently which is also known as independent assortment. Anaphase I is when the separation of homologous pairs occurs.…

Black No More is remarkable because it challenged the common mindset about race in the 1930s by using science fiction and satire, and neither side was safe, black or white, from the satire of George Schuyler. In the book, Black No More Inc., used technology beyond the time to attempt to solve the racial divide in America. George Schuyler sought to prove that race is a social construct. When Black No More Inc., opened its doors for business, there was no longer a way for people to distinguish white people from black people. George Schuyler unveiled how fragile the social construct of race truly is by showing the widespread fear that swept across America after black people became white.…

Genetic variation is necessary for evolutionary change, and refers to the differences in the composition of genes in a gene pool; examining the possible genetic variation found within populations of Blanding’s Turtles may provide meaningful insights into biology, such as being able to understand both the importance and patterns of evolution and population genetics. Without genetic variation, a loss of heterozygosity would occur, which may result in the sustainability of undesirable genes, an absence of both gradual and adaptive evolution in response to a changing environment, and eventually, extinction. Blanding’s Turtles are found throughout the Great Lakes and along the East Coast of North America.…

If advertisements were compared to side by side, a pattern of techniques to promote the products would start to emerge. Strategies such as having professionals or celebrities endorse the product and getting customers to give reviews for credibility, or using language as a tool to make claims that may or may not be true, sound convincing. “The Onion” parodies these ploys in an article in order to show how pretentious and unreliable adverts can be. To begin with, the article addresses the overused tactic of bringing professionals and customers to explain how well the product works to build up credibility.…

During the 1960’s fear and paranoia had reached an all time high. The nations leader President Kennedy managed the issues regarding the idea of communism spreading and the possibility of nuclear warfare. The Cold War and The Cuban Missile Crisis became the center of the political issues that captured America’s fears. The focus of these two ideals became adapted, in two separate films: Three Presidents Go To War, and the satire black comedy Dr. Strangelove or: How I stopped Worrying and Loved the Bomb. Within the films, one will discover how close Americans came to an all out nuclear war, how Strangelove represented the elements within the United States government that advocated military response, and how Strangelove’s satire could parallel…

Allelic segregation is the process of genetic information in cells separating during meiosis, resulting in sex cells of an organism carrying a single copy of the parent’s genetic information . Cells have two copies of genetic information stored in theirevery chromosomes. Each chromo carries one copy of each gene. Chromosomes that make up the allele can be the same or differ from each other . Alleles that have two copies of the same trait are homozygous.…
