It is through the mandate of Parks Canada that four main sustainable development goals have been established. These goals include “establish systems of representative examples of Canada’s natural and cultural heritage, protect ecological commemorative integrity, ensure that commemorative and ecological integrity values are understood and supported by Parks Canada’s stakeholders and the public, and to improve our environmental stewardship in managing our operations” (Parks Canada, 2018b). Through the development of these goals, Parks Canada has created multiple objectives with specific actions and targets. For instance, in relation to the goal to improve our environmental stewardship in managing our operations, Parks Canada is working toward improving environmental management by working with their vehicle fleet and buildings to reduce green house gas emissions to reach the targets established in 2001 (Parks Canada, 2018c).
