Gustave Caillebotte was a french impressionist artist of the nineteenth century. He grew up in a wealthy family and inherited his father’s fortune in 1874. At that time he had already made aquantasist with several impressionist artist and soon began to focus on art. He made his debut in the second Impressionist exhibition in 1876. Gustave was an impressionist artist but his style differ from many of the other impressionist artist because his work was more realistic. One of his most famous painting is "Paris Street;Rainy Day." Gustave Caillebotte painted “Paris Street: Rainy Day” in 1877. These were the political reasons for the renovation. From 1790 to 1850 France had transitioned between Royal dynasties, Republics, and Empires six different times. Paris was the focal point of revolutionary movements and by this point Parisian barricades had become synonymous with revolution. The narrow streets of Paris were easy to barricade and the winding disorganized layout made it difficult for troops to suppress rebellions quickly. The new renovations to Paris were made in hope that with the new layout it would provide quick access for troops and the broad streets would discouraging barricades, so that future revolutions could be avoided. The painting as a whole can be seen as a metaphor to represent the revolutions that occurred in the past and the new future that lies ahead. The storm that happens is symbolic to the fighting that has occur in this city and on this very street. The ground is illustrated to still be wet from the storm and so it has not been long since it stopped. The people presented in the painting still have their umbrellas open.
