Pariah Movie Analysis

When we first got assigned to watch the movie “Pariah” I did not expect to like the film. I assumed this because when I researched the summary of the movie I thought the plot would be predictable. But after watching the film I was very much so wrong. From the cinematographers point of view to the actors and even the plot everything was well done. The chemistry between the actors was very genuine and realistic. The main character played by Adepero Oduye did a very a good job. Oduye depicted the struggle of trying to figure out her sexuality in a realistic matter. Often times in movies about homosexulity the actors can sometimes be very dramatic and not believable especially if they are not gay. But Oduye made sure that she did make the character seem to flamboyant but actually someone trying to figure out who they truly …show more content…
My little cousin is 15 years old and a few months ago she confided in me and told me that she was interested in girls. Now when she told me this I was honestly not surprised. For years I had realized that there was something different about her but I was not going to force that on her, I wanted her to be able to figure that out on her own. Well a few months ago while I was having my bi-weekly chats with her she finally came out to me. She began to cry while we were on the phone because she felt as in she was not accepted by her own parents. Her mom found out she was gay and began to blame herself because she did not spend as much time with her as she should of. She than went on to yell at her about her sexuality much like the way Kim Wayans was in the movie. My cousin's story is a little different than Alike because her father is not nearly as accepting as Alikes was. Instead he is in denial and does not speak about it much. Therefore, she feels alone most of the time that is why I do my best to try and reach out and be her support

There was quite a bit more of foul language(7) than I expected, but it helped add more a more real effect to the conversation. I feel like a little of that type of language is acceptable, but it was used more excessively than what was actually needed. Another aspect that did not work well in my opinions was the fight and violence scenes(8). I did not think that the actions were exceptionally well acted out and they could have used more practice. Fighting scenes like that are hard to act out because they have to be so specific and rehearsed, but that part of the play just did not seem real to me.…

Over a few centuries, post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) has been known by plenty of names: at first, it stood as “irritable heart” during the American Civil War; later during the First World War, the symptoms were called “shell shock” or “hysteria”. When the Second World War and the War in Korea occurred, the symptoms were labeled as “war neurosis”, “battle fatigue”, and “exhaustion.” Lastly, during the War in Vietnam, “Post Vietnam Syndrome” remained as the last occurrence of names given before PTSD was officially branded and categorized as a war mental illness. All the actors seemed very professional and owned the characters they were playing. There was just something about Abele that caught my eye. For instance, every time Brittany Caldwell (Molly in The Gnädiges Fräulein) asked Abele to rock with her in the rocking chair she did not hesitate and went overboard. She exaggerated the movement and moaning to an extent that made you laugh because she was not scared to make a fool of herself. In addition, she had her own excerpt in the begging of the scene that really set the tone.…

Although the film Ordinary People (1980) was made thirty-eight years ago, I still found myself enjoying the movie. I was sucked into the movie and the story it told. “Ordinary People” archives the Jarrett Family and how they respond to the death of their son Buck. The death was caused by a boating accident. Beth (the mother) and Calvin (the father) seem to be a loving couple.…

The film Twelve Angry Men (1957) exhibited the power of an eyewitness, the characteristics of the defendant, and the power of group influence that affects the jury. Throughout the film, the reliability of the eyewitness was questioned. There were two eyewitnesses in the movie, the old man, who lives in the apartment below of the crime scene, and the old woman, who lives across the street. According to the film, there is a possibility that the eyewitnesses misinformed the jury about the crime scene. Eyewitnesses may not be as reliable as they are thought to be.…

I think that the overall acting was really good. One thing that I noticed was that at the beginning of the play as Jose Avenado walks onto the stage and a piece of metal that falls off the door. Judging by the reaction of the actor I do not believe it was part of the play, which is why I love how Jose even thought something unexpected happened kept his cool and continue acting like nothing happened. I think that the three best actor’s in this play were Jesus/Joshua (Jose Avenado) , Hermes (Sarah Swayne) and Jesus/Joshua (Eric Jackson), the reason I say this is because it was very hard to pick out any parts that they messed up on, if they did at all.…

It is very evident that the main characters as well as the whole cast portrayed their characters very well. They were successful in showing different personalities and act as if it’s not scripted nor directed. On the other hand, there are things, such as using crude remarks and inappropriate costumes that could have been removed and improved in the movie. The movie may not be suitable for all ages for it has explicit and sexual jokes. Some words used were too vulgar and foul.…
