They did a study with 75 participants that involved a questionnaire that measure connectedness, separation, getting used to college, and psychological well-being. They also measured psychological and health problems, a satisfaction of their college, how far do they live from their parents, and the student's grades. The researchers thought that separateness would lead to an increase in psychological problems. The results they found are that college students who are both independent and still maintain a relationship with their parents have fewer depression symptoms and other psychological problems, have a positive point of view of college. This article relates to the research question by showing the benefits of having parent support which is that they have less psychological problems to deal with due to having a great relationship with their parents.
