The issue of allowing parents to spank their children is a controversial one. On the one hand, there are many people who believe it should still be around since it’s been around for thousands of years. On the other hand, there are many parents that believe it does more harm than good since times are changing, so should the right to spank a child. In the final analysis, I believe that parents should be allowed to spank their children, because it teaches respect, instills a shock factor, and spanking can prevent a child from doing something dangerous in the future. They believe these violent tendencies occur when the child if getting spanked and can harbor future resentment for others and use violence as a vessel in which to get what they want. However, we must understand the discipline is important and when done properly, can have successful outcomes and lead to respectful children. Children who fear their parent can lack the ability to see the difference from right and wrong because they’re fearful of their parents. However, we must understand that there is a big difference between respect and fear. Verbal abuse in many cases can be worse on a person psyche than spanking, will parents not be able to speak to their children now? We must also remember that there is a big difference between spanking and beating to properly enforce discipline when discipline is needed. When a parent crosses the line from spanking into beating, the child is no longer getting disciplined but more along the lines of being assaulted. Fear can manifest in many forms.
