Tatianna mentioned that she never drinks, and this occasion was just a big mistake. This was a tough situation according to the parents. They never thought their child would drink at such an early age. Which brings us to the topic of why did she drink? And how often? In the research article "Authoritative parenting style and Adolescent Smoking and Drinking" by Bettina Piko and Mate Balazs they investigate the role of authoritative parenting style and other family variables in adolescents' smoking and drinking. For this research, the sample consisted of all middle and high school students in Mako, a southeastern small town of Hungary. Students completed questionnaires about drinking and smoking. According to this research, the results indicate that adolescent substance use is more likely in families with more frequent family conflicts, whereas good parent relationships continue to provide protection against adolescent problem behaviors (Price, Piko & Balazs, 2012, pg. 354). After getting some background information about the parents and their parenting style, it was clear that this type of parenting style was passed down from previous generations. Both of the parents talked about how their parents treated them the exact same way they treated Tatiana. The parents mention that they became very successful because of the way their parents treated them. They hope they can reason with the differences with Tatiana so that she can become very successful.
