Parenting may be the absolute hardest job in the world, but can be the most rewarding at the same time. Everyone has their own views and opinions as to what it takes to be a good and successful parent. Many have learned from their own experiences, whether they were good or bad, and this is what they use as their starting point before the decision to have a child has been made. The fact is, the style of parenting that is displayed in the home has lifelong impacts on how children interact with the world around them. While they are seen as incredibly loving and fun, they are not looked at as being the greatest of parents. These are the parents that would rather be seen as friends to their children. While having a close relationship, and being friends with their children is not necessarily a bad thing, there tends to be an absence of control with their children, there is generally no control at all. Many times they shy away from being seen as the one who disciplines. The permissive parent might not even set limits, or if they do, they rarely follow through with making sure they are followed, or doing anything if they are broken. As long as the child is not posing a danger to themselves, they are often allowed to do as they please. If there is something they want from their children, the permissive parent might resort to bribery in order to get the desired result. They do both encourage their children to venture out and make choices for themselves. They also share in that the children usually have greater social skills than their peers and suffer from issues like anxiety and depression less often than others do. The problem is that children from the permissive parent seem to be deficient in impulse control which lends to the behavioral problems that are common for them. Whereas children who are products of the authoritative home rarely suffer from behavioral problems due to their better sense of self control. They also generally do better in their academic pursuits. One of the bigger differences in the children from these two parenting styles has to be the level of respect and regard they hold for their parents.
