In addition, he believes that permissive parents let their children behave in ways that can get them upset, but they will not do much to stop the anger. This father not only allowed the child to have the cell phone, but he also showed the child that giving a tantrum is a good way to get whatever he wants. Brooks (2013) explains that children of permissive parents tend to be immature, and they also tend to get in trouble when growing up. The problem with permissive parents is that they think that a child like the one I describe above should have rights as adults (Brooks, 2013). I believe that these parents will continue to see their child give tantrums because they do not have set rules for their child. Rules need to be set from home so parents do not have to deal with scenarios like the one this father had to encounter. I provided details of my observations in both of these scenarios and the reason why I believe they were using the type of parenting I stated; in addition, I explained what professionals believe in regards of parenting styles. Furthermore, I was surprised to see a father allowing his child to slap him in the face; this is not common in Hispanic families. However, I was not surprised to see a Hispanic mother implementing authoritarian parenting style; Hispanics tend to apply this type of parenting styles. These two scenarios provided us important information about how different parents could deal with their children’s behavior, even if they belong to the same race. I believe that it is important for parents to know the different parenting styles so they can use some of the strategies these models provide. By knowing the parenting styles, parents will be more aware of how they are disciplining their children, and they will also know how to switch parenting styles depending on the child’s
