Today, a controversial issue that is being sent to and from Congress is the issue of if the organization, Planned Parenthood, should be deprived of government funding due to it’s inclusion of abortion services to women. As recent as December 2015, the Senate came one step closer to blocking all deferral funding to the largest women’s health care organization, Planned Parenthood. This is the Republican Parties (Grand Old Party, GOP) latest effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act that was signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2010. Congress and the GOP wants to strip Planned Parenthood’s funding because of the centers abortion services, but federal funding is already prohibited from paying for abortions. Besides abortions, according to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Planned Parenthood also provides a comfortable environment for women to go and discuss their health issues in a high-quality healthcare environment. The services Planned Parenthood provides are sexually transmitted diseases/infections (STDs/STIs) tests and treatment (41%), contraception(32%), cancer screening and preventions(12%), other women’s health services(11%), abortion services (3%), and other services(1%). The aim of Planned Parenthood is to provide high-quality health care for people in all areas, so when people and organizations are trying to violate that and take away it’s positive services to women because of one service they offer only 3% of the time out of all of their other healthcare options is a reasoning the movement to defund them should be stopped. This is why the PPP has been created. In “The Senate Just Voted to Defund Planned Parenthood” it was even stated that Obama said if a bill came across his desk to defund Planned Parenthood he would veto …show more content…
This is where the issue stems from, since all people do not believe in the same treatments and ways to handle things. In 2015, according to “A Case to Defund Planned Parenthood” stated that in response to when in 2011 the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate voted to defund Planned Parenthood of future federal funding, Planned Parenthood responded on focusing on the non-abortion activities that they also provide. Their argument was that no one disputes the idea that offering women pregnancy tests, STI/ STD testing and cancer screenings is beneficial. So how is it right to defund an entire organization when one of its activities that is only 3% of what the organization provides can defund the entire organization from federal funding. It is not right to defund an organization that does much more than abortions, but also helps control the spread of disease, does breast exams, pregnancy prevention, and STI testing and treatment as well as pap smears, which is something that no one disputes. In defense of Planned Parenthood abortion seller’s tried to change the subject with a new talking point, which was the values of research that is done on the remains of aborted babies. According to the Lozier Institute, this is also is a controversial topic because they

Planned Parenthood should not lose any funding or be shut down. Despite recent abortion controversies, Planned Parenthood should not be held responsible for pro-abortion advocates. The organization is pro-choice, and intends to give the choice back to the people in order to allow them to choose a better life for themselves. Out of the numerous services that Planned Parenthood offers the public, only three percent of all of their procedures are abortions; meaning that ninety-seven percent of everything they do is basic health care and other medical services. Cecile Richards, the President of Planned Parenthood, lists the statistics in her article, Today, We Fight Back, “every year, 2.7 million people come through the doors of our health centers, a million people participate in our sex education programs, and 60 million people get health information and other resources from us online.” Since the Republicans who drafted this bill often focus on abortion, they completely ignore all of the good that Planned Parenthood does for the community. Getting into doctor’s offices can be incredibly long and hard process, as documented in Cecile Richards’ article; she talks about a woman that she met who, after her husband lost his job, lost their health insurance. After finding a lump on her breast, she only found two clinics that would take her on as a patient, but they had two-month long waiting lists, so she went to Planned Parenthood.…

By preventing Planned Parenthood from receiving federal money, it means people with government funded health care cannot use it for the services provided at the clinics. Many people do not know the exact statistics of the services Planned Parenthood provide, and because of that they may have skewed ideas of the clinic. Without federal funding Planned Parenthood patients who use government provided health care would have to pay for all of the services of the clinic out of their own pocket (Bassett). For people with private health care, this would not be an issue, but for others who lack the money to pay for private health care, they may be in trouble. Planned Parenthood has said that two-thirds of their patients are “low-income and have no other primary health care provider” (Bassett).…
