I chose to write about option 1 for this week's discussion board. * Describe the best parent/teacher conference you have ever attended. Summarize why it was so successful. How did you feel when you left?

I have attended many parent/ teacher conferences over the years. I have two children who are 16 and 11, so needless to say I started going to parent/ teacher conferences 16 years ago. All my experiences with teachers from both of my children have been pretty good.
Last year my son was just starting 5th grade and was so excited. I knew all of the teachers my son would have because my daughter also had them and I knew they were all really nice, helpful and a pleasure to speak with. Within the first week of school my son's teacher Mrs. Switek

Right away she gave me some many great ideas on how to help him become a better writer and how we can accomplish that by working with him at home as well. Then we went on to talk about how he his reading at a much higher grade level than he should be for his age and I was so impressed because I never knew this. My son always loved to read but I never thought about him reading at different levels. His other subjects were also discussed such as math, history, science and social studies. I am happy to say that Mrs.Switek had nothing but good things to tell me. She also told me what a great job I did on raising my son because he was always so polite, and respectful, and that he always did what he was told the first time he was asked. As a parent I was so happy and felt so proud that my son was such a good kid in school. I never thought that he was not but to have a teacher validate all these great qualities in my child made me feel on top of the world. This parent/teacher conference was so successful I think because first we covered all the subjects that my son takes in school on top of discussing his

Some reasons that come to mind that Amelia’s mother may have not been available to meet at the assigned conference period may be due to a schedule conflict with her work, or possible that she has to stay home and take care of the grandmother. There could be a chance that she forgot because there was a lack of communication such as reminders. To ensure a that Amelia’s mother was going to attend the conference Mrs. Richardson should have had a sign-up sheet of dates and times she was having conferences, if Amelia’s mother was not on the sign-up sheet then Mrs. Richardson could have tries to contact her through email or calling her on the telephone. The teachers who join in from their school and help are invaluable, as 28 students in year 7,8 & 9, is an awful lot to supervise at once in a workshop environment. This year we were in the Construction workshop. After the normal safety talk the first job for the students was to make a clock. From an assortment of timbers and sizes there were some amazing clocks produced, as can be seen from the pictures.…

Hi Shanique, I agree an advantage of formal conferences is parents have the chance to come out and receive information to give them knowledge on what is going on in the classroom and the different activities or policies that are taking place. It is very beneficial for a center when the parents, teachers, and office staff can come together and get on one accord for the betterment of the children’s overall well-being. However, you are right when parents do not show up to the formal conferences it tends to have a negative effect on their child’s behavioral and developmental performance.…

My fourth grade teacher's name was Mrs. Shafer, I remember that she loved science and we always learned neat science facts in her class. I remember that her favorite color was orange and she wore something orange everyday. I also remember that one of the school days, I tried to help fix the stapler and I accidentally stapled my finger and it hurt really bad but I was too shy to say anything, so I just stood there with a staple in my finger until Mrs. Shafer noticed and told me to go to the office. One of the most memorable things from school is when the music teacher, Mr. Temmaat, had everyone try out what instrument they would be playing.…

Learning something new every single time I walked in her classroom was definitely the high light of my week. The kids were always so happy to see me and I miss them as the days go by. I have endured many learning moments as well, where I did not plan accordingly, or the lesson did not go as planned. I worked through these times with my teacher and it was so great having her by my side.…

We also have parent teacher conferences. I feel having both formal and informal meetings allows parents, students, and teachers to share their common goal for the greater good of the student. It becomes upsetting when a parent does not attend a CSE meeting. I understand that schedule conflicts can become an issue, but they can and will schedule the meeting so parents can attend. A lot of the time we get no parents to attend any of the meetings.…

? I was very excited about this colloquium because I knew that co-teaching was rising all over the country, however, I did not know what my role was going to be as a general education educator. I was a bit perplexed on why there was a panel at this colloquium, but the audience did not really get to ask the panel members any questions. I guess I expected more talking from the panel members, and less introductions and questions from one member of the SOE. Nevertheless, I would say that the Venn diagram activity that we did near the end of this “meeting” was quite insightful and sadly answered more of my questions than the panel was able to answer.…
