Parent Involvement Analysis

As a child my parents were very involved in my school life. My mother was raised in a family focused on work. Homework and school came after tending to the animals and house work. She barely passed high school and never wanted that to happen to me. On the other hand my Dad came from a stereotypical Asian family. School was extremely important and anything lower than an A was unacceptable. It was difficult at times, having one parent involvement in my schoolwork and the other settling with a C as good enough. When I think back to my childhood my parents involvement definitely helped me to become a better student.

In school my parents always made sure my homework was done and that I made room in my day to study. I understand that not all parents are like mine and don't have a strong input on their children's academic lives. As a future teacher I hope to get parents involved in their children's educations. I believe that parents should know what their students are learning and how they are learning it. A good way to do this might be so send out a weekly or monthly letter to parents explaining what has been going on in the classroom. In the letter would be a class outline of the subjects being taught at the time. This way parents will always know what their children should and should not be doing at home for homework. Not just for me, but for the student as well. Without my parents involvement in my school work I definitely would not be where I am today. My father was the one who encouraged me to learn not just in school, but outside of school as well. It is where my passion for history came from and that's what I would want for my students. I want students to come home from school and share what they learned with their parents, have discussions that go past the textbooks in school. Hopefully parents will want this involvement in their child's academic

My parents value education and they know that in other to have a better future, the first step is having an education. My mom would say that “working at McDonalds would not help pay the bills, put food on the table, and do everything that you want to. You have to go to school. You don’t want to live paycheck to paycheck for the rest of your life.” My parents’ values and beliefs help me choose the path that I’m on now.…

The language barrier was the biggest problem, but also the stress of their jobs, supporting the household, and their low educational attainment were also very influential in the academic involvement my parents could offer. Thus, according to my mother, all they could do was to make sure I understood the importance of getting an education and prevent me from getting into trouble. She went on to say “I think my job was mainly to cover all your basic needs so that you can be the best you can possibly be”. My mother’s words reminded me of a statement in Louie’s book, “parental involvement [was]…largely in terms of ensuring the children were healthy, went to school, and did not behave badly”(76). According to Louie, the “combination of extensive…verbal and…

In the video, Shabana Basij-Rasikh is talking about the frustrations she experienced growing up in Afghanistan when she quotes her dad saying, “you could lose everything you own in your life… but the one thing that will always remain with you is here” as she is pointing to her head. In a country where we take many things for granted, especially education, this quote put life into perspective. Education was a top priority growing up in my household. My dad, like Shabana’s father, believed education, especially during your high school years, is a crucial component to your success. Always having education as a central part of my life, it was surprising for me to hear that other countries, like Afghanistan, are willing to threaten the lives of the educators and students for wanting to learn.…

Parents in the dominant class, however, are more likely to see the parent-teacher relationship as one of interconnectedness. These parents believe that it is up to both teachers and parents to foster knowledge in students. They are more likely to be involved not only in homework but also in school decisions themselves. It is important to note that not all parents in the subordinate class are not involved in their child’s education, the same as not parents in the dominant class are involved in their child’s…

As a child it was instilled in me by my parents that I would always have my education no matter what it took. It has been true to this day. I have been forever grateful for the opportunities that I have had as a child to young adult because of them. Although they have helped me tremendously, it would be nothing to them if I hadn’t put in the hard work and dedication that it takes in order to want to learn, excel and grow. I believe that I have done my job to show them why it is even worth it in the first place to help me to continue my education.…

Psychologist, Robert Myers, agrees that “It has been shown many times over in research studies that a parent who is involved in their child’s education has a positive impact.” I equally agree because coming from a family that supports and pushes you to do your best, can be the greatest encouragement in life. When I started Kindergarten ten years ago, I was like any other child, ready to learn. It was a little more difficult for me and for other children to successfully learn a whole new language, aside from the one we first started speaking. It was understandable that it was equally challenging for the teachers to help us understand.…

A parent will always be the kid’s first teacher, and the kids will always look up to their parents. This is why the parents should be very involved in their child’s education. Kids tend to be more involved and more excited if they have a parent that is there to help them and cheer them on. If parents can show their kids how important it is to have a good education, kids will want to learn and they will be willing to listen and learn. With the help of both teachers and parents, we will be able to express how important an education is to the kids.…

Today in education research from El Nokali, Bachman, and Votruba-Drzalc (2010) shows there is a constant struggle in the classroom for parental involvement into a child 's educational experience. Many students may feel that their parents don 't care about their success or failures in the classroom, that their homework is a burden to their parents if they ask them for help, or they are just being completely shut out by their parents completely when it comes to their education. On the other hand, some students may have the feeling that their parents do care about their success or failures in the classroom, that their questions over homework are welcomed any time that they have them, and that they are instead prompted to talk about their experience in school and what they are learning. Whether it is good or bad research shows across the board that a student 's parents have an effect on their studies and how well they succeed later on in their educational journey and even what path they may choose to take later…

Besides, research showed that parental involvement is an important factor in increasing student’s achievement than any other factor (Chavkin & Williams, 1988; Comer, 1986; Fan & Chen, 2001; Henderson & Berla, 1994).Moreover the parental involvement could be assimilated with some activities like: communicating with teachers or other school personnel, assisting in academic activities at home, volunteering at school and attending school events, meetings of parent-teacher associations or parent-teacher conferences. For middle and high school students, discussions between parents and adolescents about school and plans for the future are often included in definitions of parental academic involvement (Hill & Taylor, 2004). Epstein (1987) advanced a broadly recognized typology to consider for different levels of parental involvement in children 's education. Initially, in her work, Epstein (1987) identified four types of parental involvement in schools: -basic obligations, -school- to-home communications, -parent involvement at school, and -parent involvement in learning activities at home.…
