Paraprofessional Learning Experience

Learning Objective 3 for me was “How to interact with students as a paraprofessional”. From the very beginning of the internship I have interacted with students in several different capacities. However, the most time I spent with students was as a Peer Success Coach. In this role I was assigned five students (four are first time first year students and one is a junior transfer student). How I interacted with each had similarities and some had vast differences. The main similarity was getting the student comfortable on campus. This was fairly easy for me because all of my students were very comfortable with their majors, roommates, and other issues that we as Peer Success Coaches look for when we initially meet with our students. With my student who is a junior, there was a situation that arose that if I didn’t act quickly the student wouldn’t have had the classes they needed to receive admission to their major, but with using our resources and being vigilant on my part the situation was handled, but that situation like other instances of my internship gave me that quick snapshot of what most professional go through on a …show more content…
Initially, this task was pretty difficult because the tutors were a different kind of student than those I work with as a Peer Success Coach and others that I’ve had the privilege to work with. What I did was I started to get the tutors involved in the trainings, so they would get a different perspective that they would if I was just talking at the for the entire hour, after that the flow of the training was easier for me as well as the

Paraprofessionals may find themselves delivering primary instruction to students with disabilities and making curricular and instructional decisions without oversight of a licensed teacher, plan lessons, lead instruction, create and administer tests, and assign student grades (CITE A). With such a wide variety of tasks beings asked of a paraprofessional, it becomes clear why role confusion can occur. Examining the roles that paraprofessionals can take on, it is critical to approach it from a legal standpoint. Ashbaker and Morgan cite that out of 100 paraprofessionals, 95 spend 60% of their time teaching without a teacher present (CITE M). In Sioux City Community School District (2003), the district lost a lawsuit from parents of a 7 year-old…

I would make sure that my paraprofessional is well aware of what his or her role are within the classroom and also what they are responsible for and whom. Some roles that they could help take a part in, within the classroom is that they can help find resources to implement within the room, but it is ultimately, me as the teacher’s ultimate decision. It is good to get other ideas too, because they are a part of the room as well. A responsibility, that I could let them know that they are in charge of is, supervising students. This can range from different things, but a couple may be, hall duty, bus duty, lunch duty, and other activities that go on.…

I aspire to gain professional experience in the field of nursing, because of personal experiences that have led me to select this career. My passion for care-taking within the nursing realm stems from a passion at young age to render aid and experiences very dear to my heart. My care-taking skills began while I was caring for children at church, as an assistant to both the Children’s and Youth Department. When a child would arrive ill, I would make sure that little contact was made with other children to contain the illness. I also made sure the child would wash their hands thoroughly before consuming meals and would take an additional precaution of washing down tables and toys to diminish the spread of germs.…

When there were not too many people, I usually would go to each person and worked with each individual. However, sometimes working with someone individually was difficult, especially when it was exam week for them, because there were so many people that it was challenging to explain each concept and problems one on one. During exam week, I would make my students sit in groups and ask them to help each other out first. Then, if someone or a couple of people still did not understand anything I would go over it with them together. Afterwards, I would give them practice exams, which I make beforehand to make sure they understand everything well enough to do well on the actual exam.…

After sleeping like a literal bear in hibernation, I wake up with the sun rise that peeks through the windows of my room. Groaning, I slide out of bed and walk sloppily to my bathroom to get ready for the day. I wash my face, brush my hair and leave it down even if I'm training. I just like the feeling of the wind through my thick strands, cooling me from the heat underneath my skin. After this, I slip into the skin-tight training uniform designed especially to be like a second skin and light as air as to not limit any movements.…

First of all, I’d like to begin by saying that this practicum experience has been an amazing opportunity and I’ve learned so much through observation, as well as, working hands-on with the students and the teachers. I had the pleasure of getting to work with two amazing teachers at Iron Springs elementary school, a first grade teacher (Mrs. Prince) and a third grade teacher (Ms. Barnhurst). This was a great learning opportunity to compare my two experiences working with different grade levels; I got to see the differences in the children, classroom management, activities, etc. I’d also like to point out that I spent almost double the time with the first grade class than with the third grade class, which had a lot of influence on what I saw and did in each class. My responsibilities within in each class…

When I reflect on this semester and my practicum experience, the first thing that comes to my mind is motivation and drive. This is the first time I have actually felt comfortable enough to want to be in the classroom all day, everyday. This semester opened up my eyes in many different ways, and if anything, made me fall more in love with teaching and working with these students. After this practicum experience, I bring a new gift with me and that is confidence. I feel at easy in front of a group of students and truly feel that if my CT made me get up and help her teach, I could figure it out.…

Being responsible , sticking to rules , being presentable , sociable and productive were the key that helped me to get those outstanding results . It wasn’t easy at the beginning since it was my first experience but having all the support from staff and management was a major push that helped me to achieve them . Two major goals I had during this internship were working on new tasks while depending on myself and solving problems in a very rational calm way whether I faced any . Working in such field requires dealing with different people from all around the world so many have different way of thinking and different strategies and that could lead to facing many challenges , I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to do it…
