Epitome of a Warlord The Odyssey The common definition of a hero is a person admired and glorified for their outstanding achievements and noble qualities. On the contrary, a warlord is a leader capable showing military, economic, and political power with the aid of loyal armed forces. If one were to apply these descriptions to Odysseus, the main protagonist of Homer’s The Odyssey, they would would find that he fits the description of a warlord instead of a hero. With the descriptions of these titles and of Odysseus himself, is really fair to ask if he is a hero or not.…

Today, who a hero is depends entirely on perspective. A hero to one could be the enemy to another. This concept of what it takes to be a hero has changed as time went on.…

    1. I think “The Lottery” takes place somewhere rural in the United States. As stated in the text, this story takes place in a small village with around 300 people. I think the writer Shirley Jackson made this setting appear familiar and ordinary because the people living in this village are normal people and they live in a normal village. I also think the writer tried to shock the readers at the end when we realize these people in this village aren’t so normal because they stoned Mrs. Hutchinson.…

A classic princess story, Cinderella remains to be one of Disney’s most popular movies. However, what is disturbing is the manner in which this movie imposes gender roles by depicting women in a negative manner. This film seems to be reinforcing the notion that women are weaklings and that the only way in which any society can survive is by upholding male dominance and embracing female submissiveness. The movie begins by showing Cinderella living happily with her parents in a faraway kingdom.…

Thirty minutes of play of Zhang Yimou’s “Hero,” I watched two characters, Flying Snow with Moon, hanging blade to blade as if through mystical powers surrounded with spinning colorful leaves. This incredibly lovely scene, decorated in untainted color, shot like a fantasy poetry, and dramatized like angels’ dance, it is unbelievable to be a fight. It is more similar to a swordplay pleasure (Harrison 570). This is the loveliest scene ever filmed and among the spectacles that the film gives to the audience who must be ready to be amazed.…

Haroun and the Sea of Stories is a book written by Salmon Rushdie, a British Indian novelist. Throughout the story though many parts are described explicitly, such as, “Silence is often considered rude.” (85). There are also many pieces that are described implicitly, like how Haroun is feeling from time to time. The whole story is revolved around the bits and pieces of explicit and implicit details, but Haroun and the Sea of Stories overall can be described as one big implicit detail, that since Haroun’s mother left, this was all just a dream. Haroun lived a good life, with a happy family in the sad city.…
