These parallel themes are mirrored by patterns in the visual strategy. Starling arrives to Lecter’s prison cell and Buffalo Bill’s basement after descending several flights of stairs and passing through several doors; they live in underground hideouts fit to hide their atrociousness . The most brilliant part of this film's cinematography are the point-of-view camera angles. These angles put the audience into Starling’s life. The camera angle points down at Starling which takes the place of the dissecting stares of the men in her life, and when she enters a dangerous situation, it waits for her in the room so the audience is anticipating what is in the room as much as she is.
