Parallax Camera Angles

Some people usually have a confused look on them whenever they hear the word Parallax. Parallax or image focus adjustment accomplishes two things; focuses the image on the scope and allows the shooter to estimate the distance to the target. The parallax is an adjustment where the focal plane of the rifle scope is offset to the target while looking through the scopes reticle. The parallax is basically an optical illusion needing correction and should not be confused with the focus. Changing a rifle scopes focus ring will not change the parallax quality.
The parallax is the adjustment of the focal plane and simply moves both planes of the object in focus and the shooters eyesight into the same plane. A parallax that is off its appropriate plane will have a fuzzy black haze instead of a crisp fine crosshair. If the scopes reticle seems to change its position on the object, then it’s not properly adjusted for that range. The reticle movement is due to the planes not being adjusted and may appear as a 3D image. Once the proper adjustment is made on the; side, front or rear of the scope the reticle will appear sharp and locked into place.

For many shooters the parallax problem is negligible due to very low magnification and shorter distances. Much like the red-dot military style scope, they are generally parallax free. Even for some middle power rifle scopes, due to lack of range may have little parallax. A lack of parallax may also be noticed on some tactical scopes due to it being impossible to engage targets accurately and quickly while determining the

As the standard infantry rifle of the Second World War, the Garand saw combat throughout theaters in Europe with the United States Army and especially in the Pacific with the United States Marine Corps. This occurred at a time when other national military forces were still relying on the tried and true, albeit slow-loading, bolt-action type rifles. The M1 Garand, however, was not only…

War stories are gruesome. They capture the reality of war--death, grief, and pain. “The Sniper” and “Where Have You Gone, Charming Billy?” (by Liam O’Flaherty and Tim O’Brien respectively) are both shining examples of this; unpacking the glorification of victory to reveal how humans are dehumanized and trained to kill other people. Their differences outline a common theme: how war dehumanizes people from killing and guilt, and how that all builds into a catastrophe later on in life.…
