Paralegals Pros And Cons

Decent Essays
Professional: I learned through the paralegals that I have worked with at the firm that being a consummate professional at all times during your work-day is key to a highly successful and productive career. Paralegals deal with extremely sensitive information and with that comes a level of responsibility. A paralegal also must dress to impress while also in a conservative manner. Loud, brash, trendy, and sexy clothes are best left for your days off.

Comprehensive: Paralegals must be through in their work. Many of the forms, pleadings and correspondence goes either to the client, opposing counsel or the court. The paralegals at the firm, read and edit more than a dozen times prior any mailing of documents take place.

You hear it all the time, “dress for the job you want, not the job you have”, and this theory is a proven psychological theory that when you semi-overdress, you gain respect. Why did I create a whole new term “semi-overdress”? You get the point more by the term that I have coined so you stand out at the higher echelon of your job title and among your peers. If I say overdress, like many do, you wear a Tuxedo to a janitorial position…don’t be THAT guy. Dress for respect, stay clean-shaven if you need to, and don’t you DARE come into work on your days off in a t-shirt and flip flops.…

Larger firms can employ several attorneys, each with an area of specialization and needing their own team of paralegals. This is a great environment for the paralegal that works best in a team atmosphere and excels in a specific aspect of the position. There may be days, weeks, or even months of research for one case, or the sometimes mundane task drafting documents to file with the court.…
