There is a country that isn’t normally talked about. This country in question, is Paraguay. One of the more interesting things about Paraguay is that they do not great each other with a “hello” and are supposed to say “adios” which actually means goodbye. It’s supposed to imply that you can’t stop and talk for hours on end.
Paraguay is located in South America under the equator. Its coordinates are 16o North and 49o West. Some of the countries located near Paraguay include Bolivia, Brazil, Peru, Chile, and Grenada. The climate of Paraguay is a subtropical in Paraneña region and a tropical climate in the Chaco region. The Ruins of Jesuit missions and Petroglyps are also well known landmarks in Paraguay. San Bernardio, San Lorenzo, and Capiatá are popular cities in Paraguay. Some of the famous Leaders of Paraguay include Alfredo Stroessner, Horacino Cartes, and Fernando Lugo.
The war of the Triple Alliance is a war that was fought between Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. This war was fought from the year 1864 to 1870.The war of Gran Chaco which was fought between Paraguay and Bolivia. They declared war against Bolivia on May 10th, 1933 and the war lasted for three years. Some of the most important historical events that happened in Paraguay include: Paraguay gaining independence from Spain on May 14th, 1811, Paraguay held its 1st presidential & parliamentary elections in 50 years on May 9th 1993, and Paraguay’s vice president was assassinated March 23rd 1999.
Paraguay has very unique music. Most of the population only speaks their native language, Spanish, most of the music that they listen to has a European origin. The main genres are Polka, Guaranda, and Purajhei. The Paraguayan polka is ternary rhythm of 6/8. Purajhei came from Europe in during colonial times and slowly was changed into what it is now with its own characteristics. Guranda has a slower rhythm than polka is really for dancing.
