Poetry Analysis: Rick Astley
Rick Astley was a UK artist and musician born in St Helens, England on February 6, 1966. He was one of the most successful pop sensations of the 80’s and currently at 51, is also on tour. As a child, Astley was never musically attached towards any instruments, as well as his voice. However, he enjoyed playing the drums, and began playing in garage bands at the age of 15. The very first band he had ever played in was a garage band called Give Way. The logic behind the band’s name was because the bass player had pinched a road sign from a junction. It ranked at the top twenty-five charts all over the world. The music video was directed by Simon West, which has Astley singing at numerous London hot spots, including an empty night club. This songs inspiration was based upon a woman Waterman had been dating for 3 years. To explain how it works, someone posts a link on any internet site or forum, the link is fake however, it leads the individual straight to the music video of Rick Astley’s, “Never Gonna Give You Up”. Which was connected to video-sharing websites such as YouTube. The prank link is considered humorous because of the outrageous dance moves in the music video. Furthermore, thanks to the Rick Rolling trend, this song became the song of choice for those to exploit internet voting. During the year 2008, when the NY Mets put their 8th inning songs selection up for a vote, “Never Gonna Give You Up”
