Meaning Of Jihad In Islam

Peace is defined as a state of being that includes a sense of wellbeing and tranquility. It can also refer to the state of being free from civil disorder and having respect and amicable relations within communities and between nation states. Islam provides an understanding of peace in their sacred texts; the Qur’an and the Hadith to guide individuals and the community to contribute to world peace. Islam’s principal teachings do not reflect the actions of the ISIS and/or ISOL as the religion promotes peace and justice through submission to Allah as opposed to violence and suppression as Obama states, “We are not war with Islam. We are at war with people who have perverted Islam.”

The word jihad literally means to ‘struggle’ or ‘strive’ thus meaning, “doing one’s best proactively to achieve a desired goal,” (Class notes). The Prophet Muhammad uses the term jihad to encompass different context such as “Recognizing the Creator and loving Him the most,” (Qur’an 9:23-24), “Freeing people from tyranny and oppression,” (Qur’an 4:75) and “Having courage and steadfastness to convey the message of Islam,” (Qur’an 41:33). As discussed above, Islam “does not permit nor does it show any kind of tolerance to terrorism” (Class notes) as the word ‘Islam’ have the connotations of peace and it literally means “submission or surrender and the world ‘Muslim’ means one who has surrendered,” (Class notes). On the other hand, a ‘terrorist’ is defined as someone who generates terror in people, causes disorder and initiates chaos in society in the pursuit of political aims. The words ‘Muslim’ and ‘terrorist’ have absolutely opposite meanings, yet the media have used ‘Muslim’ and ‘terrorist’ in the same phrase, compounding the misunderstanding and the false imagery that it has already portrayed in people’s minds. Terrorism does not have a religion, just as Obama has stated, “We must never accept the premise that they put forward because it is a lie. Nor should we grant these terrorists the religious legitimacy that they seek,” as Islam promotes justice and instructs its followers to adhere to absolute justice evident in Surah 2:11, “Do not make mischief in the land, they say: We are but peacemakers.” Muslims are encouraged to seek an “inner jihad” which is aligned with a connection with Allah to seek peace, which is then reflected in outward display of compassion which are an expression as an “outer jihad.” The term jihad has been widely misused by the media and thus created a misunderstanding of what Islam believes in, as President Obama have

Today’s threats and have become more lethal and lucrative ever since the attacks on September 11, which note was in fact an act of international terrorism, but never the less there has been an increase of domestic terrorism ever since the appearance of Al Qaeda and the attacks on September 11th 2001. Also since then there has been sixty known terrorist plots against the United States, out of those sixty there has been forty plots planned and executed by homegrown terrorist. I. Introduction: Bin Laden’s most important argument is that America is an oppressor of the Islamic state. His argument inspires modern, radical Arab protest movements and terrorist groups by using the words of Allah and emphasizing the comradery of Muslims in defeating threats to their religion. Bin Laden says the real motivation for the presence of Western troops in the Middle East is to support the Jews in Palestine as they aim to control the Arab Peninsula. He justifies his version of terrorism by claiming that his actions are done in defense of the people. Bin Laden’s distinction between Western people and Western government is that the government creates a façade of danger, through the media, to which its people fall prey.…

Since 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center by Al Qaeda, terrorism has become a global threat and an important phenomenon both to the international community and in the United States. Many have argued that terrorism isn’t a new phenomenon because it started way beyond 9/11, and I agree, but the growing number of terror attacks shows that it is a major global security threat. In addition, the global death tolls caused by terror attacks have also increased. According to an NBC News article containing some released information from the U.S. State Department (DOS), the DOS found that between 2013 and 2014, terror attacks increase by 35% and total fatalities went up by 81%. Such an increase might have been caused by the growing number of weak…

I would say that I mostly agree with Jaggar’s interpretation of terrorism. Jaggar summarizes terrorism like this, “[t]errorism uses extreme fear to subjugate and intimidate” (446). I have pondered how fear and intimidation might affect those in my community in a subversive manner. I realized that when some Christian’s explain to a non-believer how they will be sent to hell and tormented for eternity unless they repent for their sins, that statement could be interpreted as an act of terror according to the definition given by Jaggar (446). Jaggar further explains that “terrorism is “intended to create a state of fear that is acute and long-lasting enough to influence future behavior” (448).…

Homer Grays English IV Ms. Perez December 30th, 2015 Terrorism is justifiable if it's to protect a country or nation but if it's just a group of people trying to create violence and destroy a nation no it can not be. It's also depends on the group of people and nation that's doing it everybody can view terrorism different than others. But as long as human beings are divided on the lines of race and religion, politicians will always use it to their advantage. in that result there would be terrorism and the world would always be a messy place and not at peace. As long as people still continue to have different beliefs, there is bound to be terrorism.…

Terrorist, a word that means many different things to many different people, is painted by the media as an easily identifiable, one-dimensional, criminal in modern society. Google “terrorist”, and the only thing portrayed is turban wearing, automatic rifle carrying, Islamic extremist. Based on what has been learned through movies and mass media, the ability to identify a “terrorist” even when fully covered can be done based on the clothing and the surroundings in the images. American stereotypes also imply the conclusion that the location is in the Middle East, therefore, they have to be terrorists which also identifies them as Muslim. After 9/11 the media inundated the American public with feelings of fear and outrage perpetuating islamophobia.…

Jihadism is not necessarily associated with the Islamic religion. Extremists use Islam and classical Jihad for their own political means. Most Muslims focus on the inner Jihad and only participate in the outer struggle characterized by being a charitable person. The lesser jihad is an out dated religious doctrine, that is being wrongfully brought back by radical Islamic groups due to the lack of leadership and stability in the middle east. In conclusion, today’s society must be educated on the proper meaning of Jihad in order to understand today’s conflicts.…

As religions grow, many interpretations come up, particularly during a time of crisis. However, many contend that organizations that have a theology which is founded on hate do not represent any of the traditions in Islam. Many devotees of Islam argue that Islam is a religion of peace. The truth of this assertion may not be entirely accurate; this is because many militant groups carry out their activities through based on a puritanical strain of Islam that is known as Jihadi Salafism. It can be described as a medieval interpretation of Islam that developed when the Arabs were not in good terms with the Europeans as well as the East Asians.…
