Paradox And Dream

Chris wants to be a good father. When Christopher is sad, Chris uses his imagination to cheer him up. Even though Chris is struggling with money, he still didn’t want Linda to take Christopher with her. I would connect this to “Paradox and Dream” because Chris was alert of his surroundings after he lost 2 of his bone density scanners. Also, Chris was pretty aggressive when he was trying to get money from Wayne and when he fought the homeless man for a spot in line. Chris wanted Christopher to get a good education early which was another part of “Paradox and Dream”
Chris is very determined. When Linda leaves Chris doesn’t give up, he keeps pushing to get the internship. Linda also said Chris couldn’t become a stockbroker and he didn’t listen

Like millions throughout the world, Carnie did not initially grasp this hidden motive. This assumption can be supported by the fact Chris donated his college fund to charity, paid for his car himself, handed out cheeseburgers to the homeless as a teenager, and did not accept gifts from strangers on the road. Because chapter 13 did not go into detail regarding this assumption, one must look at the book as a whole to conclude on a similar…

In addition to business, he took the time to write to Wayne to express his feelings, which makes the audience feel regretful because it shows that Chris is sane and emotional. The reactions of Chris’s loved ones to his tragic demise also appealed to pathos because their personal perspective demonstrated how much of an impact Chris had on them. Walt offered, “How is it that a kid with so much compassion could cause his parents so much pain?” (Krakauer 104). This appeal to pathos evokes discomfort and ambivalence in the audience because they understand why Chris embarked on his Alaskan odyssey (combination of familial issues and personal beliefs), however he was full of so much compassion and potential, that it seemed almost shameful to just destroy it without regard to the feelings of…

For example, Chris’ interactions with the maid, maintenance man, and Andre represents the familiarity of being lost in a sea of white faces looking for your light house. In the scene where Roses family hosted an auction disguised as a garden party Chris is relieved to see Andre a fellow black face. You can see the tension subside and the relief flush over Chris’ face as he approaches Andre who he soon discovers is not his ally. This scene and many others really sets the tone for how Chris feels; his constant rejection from the few brainwashed black people in the film further in steals in the audience the idea that Chris is all alone. Just like in real life some black people either pretend to be or are oblivious to what is going on and believe that racism has ended.…
