Parade Day Rain Causes a Parade of Emotions

The exhibit, Parade Day Rain, showcases Hebru Brantley’s new works in a solo show at the Chicago Cultural Center; The Chicago Cultural Center is located at 78 E Washington St, Chicago, IL 60602. Hebru Brantley is an up and coming Chicago artist who has sold paintings to the rich and famous, such as Jay Z and Matthew Pritzer. Brantley’s art pieces will be on display from June 14 through September 23. The fact that Hebru Brantley is the curator for his own solo exhibit at the Chicago Cultural Center makes this exhibit all the more amazing. Brantley did a good job at curating the pieces and displaying them in such a way to get the audience interested. Parade Day Rain does not just consist of paintings, it is so much more. The exhibit combines comic book art, paintings, sculptures, drawings, and a huge parade float to narrate Brantley’s flyboys and girls’ journey and the emotions they experience throughout their journey. Brantley did not just created an exhibit, he created an atmosphere consisting of great works of arts everywhere. There are fly-boys hanging from the ceiling that

Another one of his paintings show a group of kids who have clearly given into the danger of drug use. The kids in the painting show no emotion and in the back there is a dark space, maybe an alleyway, that has little evil lurking eyes, that shows the dangers that lurk behind them. These kids journey has lead them to dangerous activities and their attitudes are tough and unfriendly. In complete opposite to that, towards the back of the exhibit, there is a large canvas painting that showcases Brantley’s flyboys and girls up in the clouds. They are all flying around and happy. In the corner of the canvas is says, “A long time from Now,” this shows that at the end of their journey through all the obstacles, they managed to make it to a better

This season was one of the best experiences for me in my life. The month of October was really stressful with Drama and everything else that was going on for me, but it was worth it especially for band. The field show solo was an amazing opportunity for me and it was an honor to be given the privilege to perform it. I got to connect with more band members a lot more than I did last year. This band is the best band I have ever been a part of and I hope I can be apart of it these next two years.…

They, not only, received special op units in hostile zones “but acted as flying gas tankers, orbiting in the sky as American rescue helicopters docked with them to refuel. Equipped with ground-target radar, 20mm Gatling guns, 40mm cannons, and later, a side-firing 105mm Howitzer, C-130’s morphed into AC-130 gunships, destroying 10,000 enemy trucks and repelling countless enemy attacks. Late in the war, Hercules planes were even being fitted with the largest bomb in the U.S. arsenal, the 15,000-pound BLU-82” (Story of Innovation). In “Demonology” by Rick Moody, he uses different motifs of photographs to help give information as well as an emotion for the audience. It first starts out with what seems a regular Halloween night where the kids are all dressed up going house to house followed by their parents. To me, all of these pictures and scenes beside the last one where Moody’s sister suddenly passes away, give more insight on the life that him and his sister had. It feels like it’s an average family during situations like the trick or treating or when the sister is drunk out of her mind. It is all something that people in some way can relate to with their friends, and family.…

This image symbolizes the lost childhood of the Pulliam siblings due to how society views addiction. In the article, Finally, the last image shows the Pulliam siblings in front of an open door in their house. The hallway behind them is dark, signifying their troubled past, but the door shines in light onto the children(CITATION?), showing that even though the death of their parents lingers in their pasts, there is hope for the future that the ideals of addiction in our society will change, and that the deaths of other parents will be…

Hurricane Matthew has been the most destructive hurricane, therefore being classified as a very deadly category 5 cyclone. Due to Matthew being the most destructive it caused the death toll to rise very high up to the hundreds and thousands in Jérémie and surrounding, while in other remote areas there is not an accurate death toll yet. Hurricane Matthew had been just as bad as the destruction it left behind. The Haitian government is to blame for Haiti being unprepared for the destruction of Hurricane Matthew because they did not save enough money for this specific cause, did not save enough food, and did not make enough shelters for this purpose. Many people need assistance with money; due to the fact about 80% of Haitian people live in…

The traditional view of art has changed over time just as most things have. Naturally, the act of perception has differed opinions on what society considers as art. Dance, paintings, photography, drawings, music, literature, and sculpting, are what comes to mind when contemplating the aspects of art. The limitation to defining a word so opinionated leaves out room for self-expression. The traditional ideas of what is considered art should be broadened; granted, although not tangible, art can be seen through ambitions, emotions, and expression through appearances when not limited to the customary definition.…

For me, Black Rain is just another prime example of why I consider Ridley Scott to be a mixed bag as a Director. Sure he’s definitely made some classics like Blade Runner, Alien, and Gladiator but other films that I’ve seen in Scott’s filmography (Robin Hood, Exodus, and G.I. Jane) seems like he gets so caught up into creating visual atmospheres (especially in this one) to the point of where he loses focus on maintaining a genuine plotting or narrative. Black Rain is an 80’s recycled tough cop action film about two xenophobic cops (Douglas and Garcia) who happen to stumble into the middle of a Yakuza killing-taking place in a New York City restaurant. Eventually, they make an arrest and are ordered to escort the gang member back to Japan where the two cops get further involved with the Yakuza.…

Frans Francken the Younger was a Flemish-born in the 16th century, during the Baroque era after the Protestant Reformation, in the year of 1581 in Antwerp, Belgium. Ironically, he died in his hometown on May 6, 1642. He happened to be a very popular and well-liked artist during his lifetime. Somer sources claim that he may have been an apprentice to his father in the studio and studied art in Paris with his uncle, both of whom were very successful in art themselves. He later became very well known for his historical, mythological, and allegorical themed artwork.…

This was definitely the most simple of the displays put here because all of the paintings were lifelike and easy to decipher because they were also more straightforward and seldom open to interpretation unlike the photos in Concentrations 60. Overall, visiting the Dallas Museum of Art was a new and exciting experience because its exhibits really opens one’s eyes as to how art alone reflects different periods of time, cultures, and places around the world and evolves as does humanity. Moreover, it shows how art does not come from culture, but creates it and often evinces the psyche of its…

As I looked out of the wet, speckled window pane of my grandparents old house, I noticed the gutters were bursting at the seams with rain water, and grabbed a pack of cigarettes from a nearby table. Suddenly, a flash of lightening lit up the dark, southern sky of Jamestown, Tennessee, and the instant vibration of thunder felt like an earthquake under my feet. I shivered watching the electrical, rain storm take over like a fiery beast this early, fall afternoon, and pulled my last cigarette from a worn Marlboro pack that had seen better days.…
