Parachutes Work Because Of The Force Of Gravity

Improved Essays
Introduction-

In theory, parachutes work because of the force of gravity. Gravity is a force of attraction between two objects, that is highly affected by size and proximity (gravity will have a stronger pull if the object are larger and close together). Gravity also differs from the mass of an object the more mass an object has the more gravity it will exert on the objects around it. When looking at really large masses, like the earth the gravitational pull becomes much greater because of its large mass. The earth's gravitational force pulls everything towards it with the same amount of force (9.807 m/s) which in theory means that an apple and a feather, when dropped from a high rised building, can hit the ground at the same time, The only thing preventing this is the air resistance.

The earth's atmosphere is packed full of gas molecules, to move through the air we have to move these out of the way, we only really notice this when moving through the air or atmosphere at great speed , this in term is what air resistance is. Air resistance can be also known as ‘drag' and are in definition the forces in opposition to the relative motion of an object through the air. Air resistance depends on the speed of an object as well as the size of its surface, by opening your parachute you are creating a much larger area for the gas molecules to hit as well the curved design helping In a increased air resistance dramatically reducing your terminal

The egg drop project we did involved many physics principles. One of them was air resistance, which happened because the egg dropped and it accelerated, while the velocity increased. Then the resistance of the air to the egg box motion also increased, which means the upward force of air resistance balances the downward force of gravity, so the egg box dropped at a constant speed. We attached balloons to the box we made in order for the box to pass through the air while softly landing. We believe that by attaching the balloons it would have less air resistance so the box will fall quickly.…

With the use of this equation he proved that objects that are heavier fall at the same rate towards earth as objects that are lighter because the earth pulls them down with the same force. To put it in perspective a car and a feather would fall at the same universal rate of 9.8m/s^2 even though one is much heavier. Newton also figured out that the moon is held to the earth by the same force that pulls an apple off a tree (Newton's famous story of the apple…

The goal of the egg drop project was to successfully create a structure that would protect an egg from a drop of three stories high. The problem resulted as an eggshell would not be strong to protect itself from a fall at this height. In this project we created a structure from common household materials, that will protect an egg from a drop at three stories high. Together, we worked hard to create a structure that is both lightweight, durable, and hopefully indestructible. To create our original design we used many materials.…

In the article "How To Fall 35,000 Feet And Survive" Dan Koepelle writes how a free fall from the sky could go and the best way to survive it. He writes it by putting the reader into a hypothetical free fall from an airplane. Three minutes until impact and Koepelle says that this is the best way. He seems logical and correct, I just hope I never have to use any of this information in real life.…

The raindrops trickle down from the peak of my forehead, dance across my eyebrows, and finally take the leap down the 400 foot drop. Adrenaline surges through my veins. Soaked jungle trees completely surround me and pouring rain beats away at every inch of my body, like I am enclosed in the belly of a tsunami. The light Honduran air entraps me while the wind whispers and sings to me in a cold whistled tone. The zip line stretches across the gaping 400 foot drop and I cannot seem to locate the end of the line.…

The argument the author, Alan Finder, is making on the topic of social media can be very controversial and broad. I disagree with the idea of students being fully judged by their social media accounts. Social media sites have created a virtual platform where people can express their true feelings, acknowledge the cool things they do, and post pictures of themselves or other things that help build their self-esteem. It can be considered a fun space for people of older age that has a useful blocking button to filter negativity. I tend to use only two social media sites consisting of Snapchat and Twitter where I post the cool things I’m doing or expressing my thoughts at the time to the people that follow me.…

I frantically look over my shoulder to see my uncle and Heather, holding video cameras and smiling wide with anticipation. I can't help but focus on how the equipment digs into me and how sweaty my hands feel in the too big adult sized gloves I could likely fit my head into. “You ready?”…

The Anthropocene Humans have always wanted to be the makers of their own destiny, in some way or another. I always liked that quality; it makes us tenacious in the face of disaster. And indeed, we end up succeeding more often than not. Our wish to leave a legacy has managed to shift mountains, flatten hills, and has been known to block out the sun on occasion. Our impact is comparable to the massive roaming glaciers of the post ice age epoch, Holocene.…

The egg-dropping process requires knowledge of history, engineering, and mathematics and physics. To fully understand how an egg drops, the knowledge of the history of physics, the engineering behind a device, and the mathematics and physics of free-fall is needed. Physics originates in its classical form in Ancient Greece.…
