After the series of events leading up to Margo’s disappearance, all Quentin had in mind was Margo. His love for Margo had him take his friends along on an obsessive mission to find her, but strictly on a schedule. Going behind on their schedule could result in them missing prom. However, when Quentin could not find Margo upon reaching Algoe, New York, Quentin did not give up putting their prom at risk. Quentin did not care whatsoever, but to Ben and Radar this was a red flag. Quentin’s selfish motives caused his two best friends to walk out on his mission. On top of that, Quentin’s ambitious desires of being together with Margo and believing she likes him left him heartbroken when hearing Margo say the words “Nothing ever happens the way you imagine it will” (Green 299). Quentin felt as though “These people leave us, or don’t love us, or don’t get us, or we don’t get them, and we lose and fail and hurt one another.” (Green 302).
