Paper Records Vs Electronic Records

I believe there would be a significant difference if paper records were used instead of electronic records. One of the differences being that paper records use to take a lot more time for healthcare providers to complete. The time it takes to create paper records could have been put into providing care for other patients. Electronic record improves efficiency for healthcare providers. Electronic records offer better security than storing paper records. Paper records had a higher possibility to have medical errors, those records being stolen, or have physical damage to them. CPOE allows healthcare providers to electronically order medication orders for patients. In the video, the mother of the patient was able to get care for her son in their visit. With written records, it would have been a longer process and wait time for the patient. CPOE offers patients the convenience of going to one healthcare provider to another and receives their medication and care with minimal time spent. It allows immediate access to these electronic records among healthcare providers so that patients would get their medication quickly. In the video, the mother of the patient was able to get the medication needed from the pharmacy shop immediately after the visit from their healthcare provider. to get the patient's medications available to the pharmacist so that it will be ready to be retrieved by the patient. Handwritten notes from doctors have the possibility of having illegible handwriting. This could lead to misunderstandings and lost information in deciphering for not only with the patients but other healthcare providers. Sometimes words are cut short or abbreviated on these notes increasing the chances errors. Electronic records are not only easy to read but also aids in lowering medical errors. There is a higher chance of mistaking the names of medications needed with written records. CPOE reduces medication errors, offers faster means of transmission of medical records for proper medications for patients, improves the efficiency, and is a much more convenient way of receiving medical notes for prescriptions to be made ready by pharmacy shops in comparison to handwritten medical notes.
