Paper On Mass Shooting

This past saturday around 7pm a rifle toting gunman walked into Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington. The shooter was able to shoot four women and kill one man before he stopped his rampage, police were saying his motive is unclear and his victims were random victims. With shooting random people and having very little knowledge of the shooter at this time other than a poor video surveillance shot of his body, it will be hard to find out who he is unless he comes forward or someone see’s the video and recognizes him.

FBI and other local and federal agencies are trying to assist in the manhunt. The whole mall had to be searched Saturday, throughout the night they looked through every room of the 434,000 square foot mall. While they were searching the mall they recovered the rifle the gunman used to kill and assault the victims, this will greatly help the search along with the video because they might be able to pull DNA from the rifle that could connect the shooter to the shooting.

According to CNN “From 1966 to 2012, nearly a third of the world's mass shootings took place in the U.S. This is according to a 2016 study that used the FBI definition of 'mass shooting' below. It surveyed 292 incidents and found 90 of them occurred in America. Put another way: While the U.S. has 5% of the world's population, it had 31% of all public mass shootings.” (Willingham, 2016). These statistics are absolutely shocking, why is it that the U.S. population makes up %5 of the world but the U.S. makes up %31 of all public mass shootings. Many believe the mass shootings that happen in the U.S. are connected the the amount of Guns that are produced and sold in the United States. Weather or not this is a direct or indirect correlation it’ll be hard to find

The article proclaims that there has been 294 mass shootings in the 275 days of this year as of October 2nd. At the time of the shooting, many of the victims agreed to have felt hopeless and overwhelmed. The victims were caught by surprise as what they envisioned to be a regular morning grocery store run turned into a terrifying shootout. Although all living victims were interviewed, the person of interest was photojournalist Jeffrey Miller. Miller not only captured images of the event of terror occurring, but he also captured images of surrounding victims.…

One reason is probably because of having too much weapons. The article states that there are 310 million weapons in U.S (meaning there are enough to give EACH American a single weapon!) So probably decreasing that amount probably means less mass shooting. Another reason is news reports probably should NOT show how was the mass shooting was done,…

Devastating, frightening and incomprehensible, school shootings are hardly new to the United States of America. Statistics gathered from just ten school shootings, account for one hundred and thirty-three dead and one hundred and forty-two injured, representing the work product of America’s ten deadliest school shooters. To qualify as one of the ten deadliest, the shooter must have struck a minimum of ten individuals and caused at least five deaths. Yet, the question remains, what type of person would enter a school with the purpose to extinguish human life?…

Following recent events (involving multiple mass shootings and attacks) many people think that the laws on guns in the United States of America need to be much tighter. I am one of these people. At the moment, as soon as you cross the US border, you have the legal right to purchase yourself a fire arm for personal protection, sport and (apparently, in some unfortunate cases) carrying out an unreasoned mass shooting. This document serves to explain some of the holes in the American legal system. While my foremost problem is not with guns themselves, it is a fact that they are, in the first place, an inherent danger and owning them, in the first instance, causes more trouble than they’re worth.…

Mass Shootings The anti-gun crowd would like us to believe that with more guns, comes more gun violence, but since more and more states have allowed people to carry a side arm, crime has declined. Can these things be a mere coincidence? Perhaps, but even if that’s true, it still proves that allowing law abiding citizens to be armed does not increase crime, and suggest that it contributes to lowering it instead (Federal Bureau of Investigation, n.d.). Something else to ponder is where do mass shootings occur?…

There are a lot of missing pieces in recordings on mass shootings due to poor communication between local law enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Between the 2006 and 2011, there have been 172 mass killings, which are factored as 1% of the number of murders (USA today). Due to all the commotion that has been caused this year by the four worlds known mass shootings, it would be thought that the numbers are higher. According to many different media sources, there has said to been more shootings in the year 2015 then the number of days that have gone by in this calendar year.…

According to Glenn Reynolds, an author of USA TODAY and an avid reviewer of the VA Tech mass shooting, "they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn 't do it,” referring to the many safe zones in America and how the United States government focuses on the law followers compared to the criminals. Glenn goes on to explain how the safe zones “allow criminals to pursue a mass shooting” as no one in the safe zone has a weapon to stop them until police personnel arrive. Many of the mass shootings “could have been stopped by a good guy with his gun” and Glenn makes a good point here. Mark Follman, a writer for Mother Jones Documentation, recorded “72 public mass shootings since 1982” and of those 72 “35 of them took place since 2006.” Of these 72 public mass shootings “100 percent of them occurred in safe zones in America,” a place that prohibits the containment of a firearm…

That day they took the lives of 13 students and wounded 23 more students. This is just a small fraction of all the mass shootings going on in America. On April 16, 2007 at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia another 23 year old gunman killed 32 people and wounded an undetermined number of individuals. Again, on December 14, 2012 another shooter named Adam Lanza took innocent lives. The ones killed were twenty children and six adults who courageously put their lives before the innocent children at the Sandy Hook elementary school (Atkin).…
