The process, in order to make my mask, took very long and was a very and was very complicated. My final mask is not the even the original mask I started with, but actually the third overall mask I made. The process started four days before the final due date for this following project. I first went to the Halloween store in order to buy a mask, in order to put paper mache on top and begin my project. At first, I tried to make paper mache myself, but the whole time, I just made paper mache paste and did the process of dipping newspaper into the paste and covering the mask itself. The American Revolution was caused by much more than the simple concept of no taxation without representation; its roots can be found dozens of years prior, in 1763 and the years that followed, as well as back to the early history of colonial North America. Two authors and historians, Colin Calloway, who wrote The Scratch of a Pen: 1763 and the Transformation of North America, and Eric Foner, who authored Give Me Liberty! an American History, offer two comprehensive viewpoints into the origins of the American Revolution and a historical analysis of how the events and conflicts which took place during the time periods influenced the Revolution’s arrival. Colin Calloway’s The Scratch of a Pen begins in the year of 1763, with Calloway defining…

In the short story,”That Dumb Space Movie” by Lucie Britsch demonstrates the thematic tension of when something happens to somebody close or a colleague, to ponder about it and think of something that can fix it but can’t overpowers just forgetting about it and moving on accepting that something is wrong. The story starts off with the narrator talking about how they had to wear their costumes to work because they were having a Halloween party that night. The boss, Kevin, calls the narrator into his office to ask her about the paper towel situation, and if they needed any. The narrator can’t stop staring at Kevin so he pulls out his scream mask and shows her.…

[2] Five years after hooks’ published her essay, artist Kara Walker’s etching “Untitled (John Brown)” expands the essay’s ideas to apply to more mediums than simply cinema. Walker’s piece is a physical embodiment of the very skepticism hooks has theorized. The seemingly unfinished sketch is her take on the moment when radical white abolitionist John Brown is being led to his execution for leading the infamous Harper’s Ferry raid. A famous lithograph that was distributed throughout the nation during the early abolitionist movement was composed by Currier and Ives and illustrates Brown as a hero kissing a baby a grateful mother presents to him (Oh). Walker chooses instead to turn this idea on its head and imagines a powerless Brown clad in a…

This was about three years back, I was going through my typical teenage angst yada yada yada. It was the summer prior to my 10th year and I had made the stupid decision to stop brushing my hair completely and let it go all Rasta. By the time school came around, layers upon layers of it were greasy and matted. One Saturday, I finally chose to enter the bathroom and manage the birds nest. After 3 hours of combing, destroying hairbrushes, and constantly applying conditioner I gave up and pulled out the twin blades.…

And as time went on, I kept many and disregarded even more. In many cases, wearing certain masks allowed social domains to open that were previously unknown to me at the time. For example, for a long time I attended theater classes, believing that acting would allow me to overcome social anxieties and express creativity. I would later disregard this as I was never comfortable acting in front of people. But what wearing this mask allowed was the opportunity to enter into Technical Theater classes.…

I put the pieces aside, hoping they would harden so by the end I could put the pieces together. I went on with the recipe poaching my pear and helping my team members when I had down time waiting for my own dish. Time went by incredibly fast because it was already the last ten minutes of competition. I started to slightly panic when I checked on my sugar sculpture pieces, and they hadn’t hardened in enough time to even be made into a sculpture. Consequently, I had to throw the pieces away because there was nothing else I could do.…

The mask is “life-size”. 2. As I study the picture, I notice how the green color varies and I can see a lot of white and natural earth colors, like brown. I also see that the nose of the mask sticks out unnaturally quite a bit. Specifically above where the eyebrows would be, a portion of the upper nose bridge is clearly raised artificially to make his nose appear much longer.…

People do not only wear masks on Halloween. However, it is still worn for the same reason- to conceal an identity. In “We Wear the Mask”, Paul Laurence Dunbar poetically tries to reveal that everyone has a mask to hide a face they do not want to reveal. Whether it be your inner thoughts, lies, or tears, we all want to hide something, even if it means to put on a mask that is not our true selves. I am no exception.…
