It was a dark summer night, the frigid desert wind seemed to seep its way into the heated car. My mom warned me that desert nights were chilly, and I should’ve brought a jacket, but I insisted I didn’t need one. It was the summer of 2015, school had just let out my papaw informed me we were leaving to visit his sister, my great Aunt Jeanie. I didn’t travel often-- a trip to Florida each December and I once went to California when I was five. We were going to travel in our little Park Avenue Buick with 5 little seats and 5 people, I was dreading the ride. I was …show more content…
We got on the road and headed West, towards the setting sun. I was excited and ready to be there, I couldn’t sleep. We drove on through the night, my grandpa told me about the mountains we had to drive through as I fell asleep. I felt sore the second morning from sleeping uncomfortably crammed in the back seat. We agreed on stopping at the first rest stop we seen, so that we could stretch out and relax a minute. When I stretched out my legs and back it felt great. The third day started off with my mom asking to stop to take pictures near every road sign. We were in Kansas which meant one more state we had to drive through, until we reached New Mexico. Kansas was a boring state, considering all there was to look at were fields and occasional farm houses. By mid-day we were in Denver, Colorado about to drive through the mountains. We stopped at little gift shops and admired the city. My aunt called us and said she would pay for us to stay in a hotel room over night , so my papaw could rest before we drove through the

I was thrilled to be escaping from home and traveling to Gatlinburg. The cabin we would be renting was outstandingly gorgeous. I had my own full size bed , couch, and a full bathroom. We saw fifty out of fifty states, two provinces of Canada, and Great Britain license plates and the top three states we saw were Indiana, New York, and Ohio.…

It was late June when we got out of school. It was our last day and I couldn’t wait to sleep in and chill on the beaches in southern Florida. Me and my family had planned to head down to Miami, Florida by tomorrow night, and I couldn’t wait. I went to Florida when I was little, and I remember boogie boarding across the small ocean waves. Most of my family members were excited for the weather, hot, not cold like it was here in Michigan.…

On a cold, blustery February day, I found myself back in my hometown, broke, broken, alone and confused. In a daring escape, like something out of an old war movie, my mother had come to Phoenix and liberated me from my husband. In the dead of night, we packed up ten boxes and two suitcases, slipping away quiet as death, to board a plane early the next morning. In Phoenix, where I had been living for three years, it was warm.…
