These made Christians to gain an elevated perception of the authority of the church in the heads of most Christians. The council that was held in Rome led to the pope being titled “Vicar of Christ” (Ullman, 1972). This further elevated the authority of the church on the minds of Christians by painting a picture of Christ as the surrogate of Christ on the Universe. Caesaropapism was the source of these proclamations. Constantine put the church in an unprecedented position when he seized his authority over the church affairs and doctrines. He shifted the capital of the empire to Constantinople, making the pope the most authoritative figure that prevailed in Rome.
