Lions have undergone an interesting history as they evolved from their Panthera blytheae ancestor. Lions have gone through adaptations throughout their history to continue to survive. The panthera blytheae slowly speciated into multiple species and become extinct. The lion has adapted to survive as the earth ages and changes over time. Adaption is required for organisms to continue to survive on this planet, because without it they would all go extinct. Lions reside in the plains of the south african savannah. Lions are carnivores and get their food from hunting other african animals. Lions have adaptations that help them survive more efficiently in their environment. Lions have adapted to be fast and stealthy, to be able to catch their food more efficiently. They have adapted to have loose belly skin to be able to fight with other organisms with little injury. The panthera blytheae is an extinct species that is believed to have existed almost 6 million years ago. Not much is known about the panthera blytheae, but what is known is that it shares many characteristics with other animals in the panthera species. With the size of the panthera’s skull the closest relative is believed to be the snow leopard. Due to recent evidence, the panthera is believed to have a similar diet to many big felines. The lion has changed drastically from its ancestor to what it is today. The cranial structure of the panthera blytheae is more like a snow leopard than it is to the lion. The panthera is believed to be much smaller than the modern lion. The lion has changed to be larger to seem intimidating to predators and have an increased chance of survival.
