The movie that I am going to analyze named Pan's Labyrinth (El laberinto del fauno), directed by a Mexican filmmaker Gulliermo del Toro, released in 2006 in Spanish with English subtitle. The movie combines two stories, one is about the journey of the main character Ofelia to come back to her underworld kingdom, the other is about her life and the aftermath of World World II. Ofelia's journey, based on the outline of Joseph Campell, is a hero's journey. Besides, the movie is directed primarily at adults in two ways: Ofelia's personality and relationships among characters. Before analyzing the movie, I initial would like to summarize the movie. The main character in the movie is Ofelia, a young girl. Ofelia and her mother who is pregnant, move to her step-father house. Olelia's step-father is a cruel and vicious captain, he is hunting the anti-Franco rebels who are hiding in the woods. The captain only …show more content…
On the road to the captain's house, Olefia meets a fairy in the shape of a praying mantis, it is the departure of the journey and it accidentially comes to Ofelia . The fairy leads Ofelia to Labyrinth, similar to the first threshold in the Campell's outline, this is the first time Ofelia meets the faun. I think that the faun here represent the goddess. The faun tells Ofelia that she is the princess of the underworld kingdom but she must complete thress tasks to return there. The call of advanture given by the faun. At first, Ofelia wants to refuse the quest because she does not believe in the faun, then the faun said that she can vertify his words by looking at her shoulder, she sees a mark in moon shape and agrees to take the adventure. The faun gives her a book and three stones, those things represent for the supernatural aid because those things help Ofelia complete the
