Unaware of what was happening, I ended up with anticipatory anxiety, which means I was in a constant state of intense fear between my panic attacks. I ended up having to leave one week early due to the fact that I was unable to sleep and was constantly in tears. I went to the doctor but was not provided the information I needed to recover from my episodes. Desperate for answers, I looked up all my symptoms online and found articles on people who were experiencing the same situation if not worse. Educating myself on what was really happening to me, lighten my symptoms. Then one night, I woke up with a panic attack so intense, my parents drove me to the emergency room. The doctors gave me a pill that made everything feel okay again. Tired of feeling like my life had spiraled out of control, I found ways to deal with it naturally. I was able to talk to others who also went through the same thing which made me realize that it is not an uncommon disorder. More than 20,000 people go to college in order to get better lives and a higher education. However, when anxiety begins to develop within an individual because of high stress levels, their life quality begins to decrease and their chances of receiving a high education gets taken away from them. Anxiety disorders can be as serious as severe depression and should be taken with the same amount of precaution. If someone loses control of their symptoms, it begins to lower their self esteem as they begin to feel less capable of dealing with everyday things. Carla Wilson talks about mental health in her article Take Mental Health Seriously; she explains how “an individual who experiences serious mood or mental disorders... feels isolated and estranged from family, friends and co-workers” (Wilson). She explains how it is very important to catch any symptoms as soon as they begin to arise within an individual.
