Problems Of Panhandling

Improved Essays
2 Is panhandling really solving any problems?
Panhandlers will be seen on the sidewalks, exit ramps and on the side of the highway receiving money or donations from people passing by in cars. Panhandlers begging people for money on the side of the road does not solve any problems. They are not solving the problem that they are homeless or the problem that they do not contribute anything positive to society. They do not help themselves by taking money out of people’s pockets to help themselves. How does panhandling help people who are homeless? Panhandling is more than likely the only form of income for most people who are begging for donations. If they had other forms of income they probably wouldn’t be panhandling. Panhandlers beg people

I feel as though I have thought about this question in my head so many times and I always seem to come to the same conclusion. Panhandlers do not contribute to society in a positive manner in my opinion. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion and this is mine. Some people may think that I am being rude by thinking that but it is my opinion and I have yet to be given any reason to reconsider it. Panhandlers take money from the hard …show more content…
If you are giving your money to a panhandler on the side of the road they should be more than appreciative. You are giving them money that you worked for, money that you could’ve spent on something you want. Panhandlers have been caught in the act of being unappreciative of getting donations claiming it’s not enough.
Aggressive panhandlers ruin panhandling as a whole
4
Aggressive panhandlers are panhandlers who shout or yell at people who do not donate to them when they are asked or do not donate what the panhandlers deems to be enough money. These type of panhandlers ruin the panhandling community for the rest of them. For example a panhandler in California was arrested for standing on the median without a permit. He had over one thousand dollars on him when he was booked “Aggressive panhandler arrested with $1,800”. In my opinion no person who is panhandling should have that kind of money. If you have that much money you have no need to try and sponge more money from people.
Conclusion
Is panhandling enabling or charity you ask? My answer is yes and has been yes from the beginning of this class. The only real way to get rid of all the panhandlers on the streets is to stop giving them money. If no one gives them money then they will have no reason to congest the streets and exit ramps with hopes of conning people out of their

To begin, in my community I have come to respect those who help others in food pantries and in special needs schools through personal experience. One day my mom and I took a new route to my grandparents house and we came across the RCS Food Pantry. The next day we pulled up and talked to this sweet lady and she said that we could help package food for the homeless, so every Monday we would go and help out, it was a touching experience to see the look the homeless gave us when we gave them the food. One man I talked to was in the military and wasn't able to get a job because of his PTSD, it was sad the way he ended up but I vowed to help in the ways I knew how.…

Why can society spend countless, pointless dollars on meaningless objects, but cringe thinking about donating a dollar to someone in need? By definition from the McKinney Act of 1987, a homeless person is one who does not have a fixed residence to sleep at or who has a fixed residence that is a supervised shelter (Homeless Needs para 1). During the winter of 2014, there were 49,933 homeless veterans living in the United States. Forty-nine thousand, nine hundred and thirty-three people struggling to live on a day to day basis that deserve to live in luxury and honor (Fact para 1). As a result, homeless can live on streets for days, months, and years because they find high-quality stuff in dumps, which could be saved or stored at home. Also, some people use half of a bottle or a can of goods and then they throw it away. They are not considering this attitude as inappropriate which leads to money loss and creating unnecessary dumbs. Eighner explains, “ Yet perfectly good food can be found in Dumpsters. Canned goods, for example, turn up fairly often in the Dumpsters I frequent “ (628).…

For many years, society has looked down upon the homeless because of their social status. People have been given the notion that the homeless are in the situation that they’re in because of many taboos that society looks down upon like alcohol, drugs, and gambling. People should be showing the homeless compassion and offer help, instead are met with mean actions and awful words towards their way of life. Not all homeless people are in their situation because of addictions. There are a great number of homeless people out there who are veterans that struggle with mental disorders that they received from past wars, such as PTSD, that do not allow them to live a normal life.…

Have you seen camping tents on the sides of streets or highways and asked yourself, “how big is our homeless problem?” The problem of homelessness in the city of San Jose is drastically causing problems with no immediate plan to help out the homeless. An article in 2013 by Mark Emmons for TheMercuryNews.com, says the homeless numbers locally leave the San Jose/Santa Clara County behind some other bigger cities such as New York City, Seattle, and San Diego with 7,631 homeless people. San Jose is the capital of the Silicon Valley and has quickly grown into one of the richest and most expensive areas to live in throughout the years. The advancement in technology and innovation in the city, especially with many major tech companies like Apple and…
